4.35 has two decimal places (i.e hundredths) so converting to a fraction will be removing the dot and multiplying by 1/100
So 435/100 = 87/20

Question 33
• •
express 4.35
as a fraction

Does two dots are on top of the 3 and 5 please

this is a recurring decimal, I.e 4.353535...

For recurring decimal, the denominator is always 9 or 99 or 999 etc depending on the number of digits recurring..

In this case, our denominator is 99 since it is only two digits that are recurring (3 & 5)

To get numerator, this will be (the main number without the decimal) minus (the actual number before the decimal). I.e 435 - 4 = 431

Therefore 4.35... = 431/99

Let x be the unknown fraction

X=4.35....equ1

Multiply through by 100

100x=435.35........equ2

Subtract equ 1 from 2

99x=431
X=431/99

The is how you turn all decimal to fractions weather reoccurring or terminating

but it is not in all cases that we multiply by 100. It can be 10 or 100 or 1000 depending on the numbers of digits after decimal
