I understand why guys are running away from court wedding. Naija babes have shown us that marriage certificates can be weaponised against the man outside naija.

I would however choose court wedding because I don’t like messy arrangements. I like to do things properly.

No. What I mean is that it is that the Judge himself believes that law is crap.
I am all for protection of women.
Polygamy is recognised in Nigeria.
Any woman that marries a man traditionally should have the security of knowing she is in a valid marriage. It would not be right for one woman to try and oust the other based on a marriage certificate introduced by colonial powers.

What you want to do is what they call long journey.

Ratifying traditional marriages would make marriage covenants customisable. The conditions would change from LG to LG. Better to have one “official” form of marriage with it’s fixed set of laws.

If she wants that security she must get married in court. If the groom disagrees, then she can call the wedding off.

What I want is already existing.
It just needs to be documented at the LG more frequently. It is erroneous to believe that a court marriage is superior to a customary marriage

See eh, any man that blatantly opposes court wedding is a red flag for me. How will I not be legally married to someone? I know I'm not interested in divorce, in fact I never pray for my enemy to experience it. I just want to be legally married to the love of my life what is there?. There are rules of the land and what's there to lose. In fact I'm thinking only court wedding sef and then honeymoon. The drama involved with all this traditional wedding is too much and expensive. You will need an evidence of marriage if u wanna apply for visa. In fact it even protects your children. God forbid if the husband dies how u want prove say u be the wife?. All this traditional marriage certificate is not valid. All his properties and everything would be taken and the wife and kids would be left with nothing. It's just funny why a lot of people oppose it. I mean as a wife I'm gonna do change of name and pick up his surname, so why wouldn't he wanna marry me the legal way. Men that would fornicate would fornicate whether they do court or not. So I don't understand why they oppose it. This is from my own perspective sha. It's just a wise thing to do. If my boo is refusing it, then it is a red flag oo

Lies ,Most Women would Pick Registry / Court Marriage .Don't Cajole and Twist the whole thing all in the name of Illiteracy and literacy .Leave your home ,Go to Magistrates Court and Listen. to Matters of Divorces between once legally Married Couple and know experience of others .Don't just sit there and Use your Personal Knowledge to access Everyone. Marriage is not Limitations ,it's not a Prison Yard .I had a Church Marriage and told the Pastor I am not going to any Registry. We were Blessed ,It was a simple Ceremony and that is how I choose mine .I don't have to follow a Protocol Laid by anyone .I do not owe anyone the Responsibility to show any Registry Certificate .I have built a Comfortable 3 Bedroom flats ,two kids and just one wife ,I told my wife categorically I am not in for Court / registry marriage or whatever you Call it and for your Information ,I already made a video and audio and Documents record of my Will ,Kept it in the Bank and a Lawyer is aware of it .I Hate the Idea of Na so U go do am because Na so Dem dey do am ,Says who ? Court Marriage are for the Coward.

Oga its not me you re married to. Everyone has their opinion and choice of marriage. The fact that you did a simple ceremony doesn't stop me or anyone else form having an elaborate wedding. When I say illiteracy or lack of knowledge it's due to the fact that a a woman who does not know that even with the church certificate from a registered and recognised church she's recognised by law as a legal wife can be kicked out of her home. Any reasonable person will definitely go and make his or her own research and choose the best option for him, its not my wife or kids that stand the possibility of being thrown out by relatives. Pls don't quote me again.

Even church will ask you to do court first of their certificate is not valid. Some church's certificate is legal and approved by the court.

Why marry if you won't go all the way? No woman wants something to creep up behind her and take her by surprise.

Men also want to protect themselves. They oppose it because they want to live longer and we don't do autopsy here.
