Nigeria’s Power Transmission Hits All-time Peak Of 5,420.3MW by TheRareGem1(op): 8:11pm On Aug 20, 2020
The Nigerian power industry achieved another improved all-time national peak of 5,420.30 megawatts, the Transmission Company of Nigeria announced on Thursday.

It was also gathered that the 5,420.3MW was effectively transmitted through the national grid at a frequency of 50.10Hz at 9:15pm on August 18, 2020.

“This is the highest ever recorded in the nation’s power sector to-date, surpassing the previous peak of 5,377.80MW recorded on the 1st of August, 2020, by 42.50MW,” the General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said in the statement.

The statement, which was issued in Abuja, was entitled, “Power sector records new improved all-time peak of 5,420.30MW.”

The transmission from noted that the gradual but steady improvement in electricity delivery in the nation’s power sector was attributable to the keen interest of government.

It said this was as a result of the government’s ability to pilot the programmes and projects geared towards growing the power sector as well as the collective effort of all power sector players in the value chain.

TCN said it was committed to working assiduously to further stabilise, rehabilitate and expand the grid.

It urged Nigerians to lend their support by safeguarding electricity installations nationwide.

Who told you that. Where do you live, let's verify because light has improved throughout. Though not better but it has improved and by the time Siemens deal kick start and other reforms, light would be better.

Transmission is different from distribution.

Selected areas have seen the improvement while others haven't, don't forget the pressure on gas power stations is less( this is as a result of the season we are presently)

I shame for Nigeria! Celebration of mediocrity is the order of the day, South Africa with a population of 80 million people produces 51,309 megawatts, which is close to 10 times the amount we generate.

We need at least a constant 15000MW to kick start genuine industrialization. 5400 is too low for a huge country like Nigeria.

OH SHUT UP...

Go and learn history before talking rubbish.

South Africa's power generation industry is at least 80 years older than Nigeria's.

Meaning they've been pouring investment into power for nearly a century longer than Nigeria.

South Africa's first power stations were built in the 1890s. By 1920 they had 4 huge power plants. By 1960 that number had reached past 20, with several older plants decommissioned due to old age.

All this was before Nigeria had built her FIRST power plant.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_decommissioned_power_stations_in_South_Africa

Contrast SA's history with Nigeria's:

Nigeria's FIRST power plant was Kainji Dam, commissioned in 1964 by the Balewa govt.

One thing many of you folks need to understand is that Nigeria is a NEWCOMER to modern development, a major reason being serious colonial looting, neglect and exploitation that saw the country only start to develop meaningfully AFTER independence in 1960.

It will take SEVERAL DECADES for Nigeria to be where you ''expect'' her to be in terms of development.

It is nothing to be ashamed about or beat yourselves up about. It's simply history playing itself out.

Comparing yourselves to ''South Africa'' is as dumb as beating yourself up for being behind in a race, in which your opponent started 200 metres ahead of you.

In the meantime, contribute your quota in a meaningful way instead of posting shallow garbage that betrays your intellectual vacuity.

Good morning, I think no need for insulting him, he only voice his opinion and what he knows which you've countered with what you know too. Moreover SA power generating industry been old doest mean should be better than Nigeria industry. There are many industries out there that are doing well despite new in the business. Truly there as been improvement in the power generation, my concern is can we maintain it for long and also they can do better.

For about a month power distribution improved in my area.

But then the bill they bring has been doubled even before the improvement in power.

Since this week, the power situation is gradually going back to the normal epileptic way.of 5 hours daily.

The power improvement was all a rouse

I learnt the distribution companies does not buy up to half of the power available because they claim they are not making commensurate profit especially EEDC the man does not have the capacitor to invest in power distribution, the last time govt threatened to revoke he rushed to go and build library in daura

Fashola took it to 7,000 megawatt during the time he occupied that office but boom! this aboki came and reduce it below 3000, now that he luckily made it to 5000 we won't rest

most of Nigeria leaders and the citizens ought to be going for brain test as they're going for NCDC test. nonsense

I should be jubilating that megawatt is rising when I'm paying enough bills not to even warrant the drop in the first place
