Barcelona hope to persuade Lionel Messi to stay at the club, but some members of the board have told ESPN that they wouldn’t be against selling him in the right circumstances. New coach Ronald Koeman has publicly said he wants to build the team around Messi, and sources have told ESPN that the board’s stance is that they want to keep him. However, Messi’s doubts about his future have generated an internal debate among the board. Some directors have told ESPN that they would be prepared to listen to offers that would allow Koeman to reconstruct the team at the same time as reducing the wage bill. Messi has grown frustrated with events on and off the pitch in recent seasons. He had a public falling-out with former sporting director Eric Abidal earlier this year and criticised the board for attempting to put pressure on the players when they were negotiating a wage cut due to the coronavirus pandemic. Pierocash:RIP English. By the way, if you read very well, Barca is not laying him off. It is Messi that is insisting that he is likely to leave, and SOME of the board members are saying if Messi insists, they would not oppose him. That is different from being asked to leave the club. You are not making sense.... Messi is doubting his future at the club...so what should the club do...to dey look am abii? When they can sell and get some cash... The players koeman is after...have you seen the news? Believing every rumour out there? Because he is dutch so you should know he will be linked with every outstanding dutch players...even Van dyjk..... If messi should leave that is his problem, barca are not living large from him.....Barca made him...barca is giving him close to a million every week...which other club can afford that amount? So if he goes its barca luck....besides as the saying goes...soldier go soldier come...
