Messi has had his issues with Bartomeu for a while now.

Joan Laporta said three years ago that Bartomeu has to go to keep Messi happy.

If it turns out that he's the one who makes Messi leave, when he's still top 3 in the world and walks into EVERY TEAM ON THE PLANET, the guy will be lynched in the streets. The only logical conclusion is his resignation. Messi is 33 and still has a lot to offer, if the Barça board are willing and able to match getting the best out of him while rebuilding the team.
