Igboland : The Right Of Female To Inherit Fathers Property Will Destroy Marriage by Whiteangel1234: 1:23pm On Aug 26, 2020 |
The Right of Females to Inherit Their Fathers Property in Igboland is not good nor acceptable this are ancient Tradition that have hold our society together its our customary laws for 1000s of years . The law is not discriminatory rather its made to protect ladies from Opportunist lazy men hunting for Girls from wealthy family instead of Pure Love Igbo men are very hardworking , caring and totally devoted in marriage and Love . We have more respect and Love for women than any tribe in Nigeria , in fact every married woman is called ORIAKU ( consumer of Wealth ) in Igbo land its our believe that men should suffer and work alone while the women stay back and enjoy . this laws shape and made us . Advantage of this laws is as follow 1- Igbo man only marry because of Love and not family status --- with this Law in Place majority of Igbo men will stop considering love in marriage decision and start going after Girls from Billionaire family to marry , nobody will be interested in girls from poor family background . Currently even if you marry the daughter of a Billionaire in Igbo land you won't get any coin from the family but will be expected to even spend more of your money to organise a worthy marriage 2--- Girls from poor family background in Igbo land will find it difficult to get husband soon , currently Girls from Wealthy family find it hard to get an Igbo Husband because majority of men avoid them because of plenty expense in organising the marriage to the standard of their parent 1 Share

Sirmwill: Its won't go down well if the law is fully implemented in the next 10 years all the young men will be hunting for Girls from Billionaire Family Only to marry . the poor people will be left with their daughters. Marriage will become an investment for men it will also create a society for us where our young men become Lazy and no more aggressively hardworking this laws are alien to us |

Irrespective of Gender, we all are Creatures of God.. If you are Privileged to Have a Property to Share, Everyone Should get Something.. All these things we Fight for Ends Here.. Nobody Carries Inheritance to Eternity.. 1 Like 1 Share |

You are right OP! The Supreme court is misinformed with happenings in Igbo culture. Enforcing such law in Igbo land is a waste of time. Because it will fail. Daughters in Igboland inherit certain properties except for ancestral lands. The Igbo customary law binds families together, it makes the men hustle harder to cater for their family and it frowns hard on broken homes. You’ll hardly find a lazy man putting his hopes on his wives struggles. A man is made to treat his wife as a queen. 2 Likes |

Righteousness89: The law does not discriminate against women it actually protect them from opportunist lazy husband .the law protect the institution of marriage to be purely based on Love and nothing else .. Unless you go ahead also and abolish the right of men to marry woman rather both gender can marry each other on equal basis like the Indians |

UdechiHD:The supremem court gives not regards to tour culture. The Supreme Court made this decision based on the fact that it is discriminatory and ranks the girl child as less. So when she marries, she is cast out right? Mba |

Mynd44:Supreme court you call it. Is the supreme court greater than Sharia courts in the north? Customary courts are there to protect certain values. Instead of the Supreme court to intervene in such jurisdictions, it should rather empower the Customary courts to rule in such case. As a matter of fact, the National Assembly should pass laws that will upgrade the Customary court the same way the Sharia courts operate. Let the Customary court be backed to sit on cases without the involvement of the Supreme court. Gender equality and inhertance should be brought before it. |

Mynd44: The igbo tradition don’t see it like you view it... Is Yoruba lying down to greet not act or slavery and human worship? But to the Yoruba people is act of great respect and gratitude One mans meat is another human poison.. Only slaves lie down to greet... is act of total submission to a thing.. now if you’re not Yoruba and in Yoruba ... Yoruba will expect you o lie flat and greet .. failure to postrate, they will refer you as... bastard.. omoali.. 1 Like |

Whiteangel1234: Hmm Op I don't see anything bad there. It's not every family that has properties, not to talk of the ones that girls will inherit. They might just give her maybe furniture or a flat if the father has any. Some might even inherit orange tree These days, men chase women that have money, so it's not a new thing .Women also chase men with money, so they will continue chasing each other. |

UdechiHD:Sharia isn't discriminatory. The law applies to both male and female and regardless of tribe. Immediately there is a different set of rules for different genders, that law becomes problematic 1 Like |

A na edu nwanyi uno... na ala igbo.. almost same as her having property and share from the family inheritance |

Mynd44: That rule was/ is never a problem in igboland.. go through that case and observe the judgement of high court , appeal court , before she got to Supreme Court .. what was the judgement of the Supreme Court ? Supreme Court ought to have rule strictly on her case not generalize, and deliberately abusing traditions What about Oni of Ife and his abobouka.. that should be abolished by Supreme Court or how do you explain buring someone alive .. because his an aid to a king? |
