It is welcome proposal..the criminal crawling to the extent the evidence are wash off by time erosion of delays.I have criminal case with one idiot called Pastor Dele of a redeem Ogba ..for past four years ,8m naira was involved,I have got civil judgement,the fool still took me to high court,but the criminal side still gathering dust..

Good idea, but then policing should not be solely for the federal government. In fact, the main tasks of the federal police should be investigation, research, education and prosecution. Then there must be state police and local government police which should have larger share of fight against crimes in all departments. Then community policing should be the job of each local government. Then the police and the judiciary working together must be completely independent of the powers that be.

Ibori's case in the UK took less than 30 days.

It calls for thorough investigation before matters are brought to court. The DPP must have a strong case and have finish the investigation before bringing matter to court. We have cases in court that have lingered for more than 10years, where is the justice

Not a bad idea. The change has to be in total. Some cases are dismissed for lack of merit or evidence. A lot has to be done in that regard, citizens rights have to be defended, lacuna in the constitution and our laws have to be worked on.

It's only in Nigeria that cases lingers for years and even some completely stall without progress. The president have said the right thing and this we need to put in place for judiciary to be on top of their games. Most thorough investigations ends within 2 to 3 months of a case, lingering cases for years has already been compromised with corruption. No justice can be derived from such cases.

While speedy trial is a good thing, the emboldened is FALSE

My grandfather had a court case since 2007 as regards land with the government,where a storey building from 1957 was demolished to make better roads in our village adjournment, adjournment would take like six months before they sit for compensation, he died 3 years ago and there's still no verdict.
We just gave up on nigeria

It is ingrained in our system to use technicalities to prolong cases. I know a company that has been in court with the Corrupt Commission for 5 years! 3 judges have backed out due to the corrupt commission lawyers antics!!

So what do you suggest as the way forward?

A welcome development in the right direction. Seriously there need to be a revamp in the laws that governs the courts in Nigeria.

We are a difficult set of people in Nigeria. This is reflective in how terrible all services are in this country.

Administration of justice through the courts ...nothing to write home about.

Interior services like driving license, international passport, National ID card..... terrible.

Police services... zero

Emergency and Medical services ....zero

Public services like roads, electricity, waste management, drainage services, etc... zero.

All these cuts across every body. So the problem of Nigeria is with each individual person.

Invade?

Court case is what they are talking about. Not the entire process of a crime.

And even if a criminal wilfully evades arrest, such case can be tried in absential with sufficient evidence.

Mr.President seems to have forgotten that his govt of impunity & lawlessness both as military and civilian dictator has set the judiciary backward that judges mostly have to first look @ the powers that be before dispensing justice or give conflicting judgement.

Can he recall the illegal invasion of revered supreme court judges houses in the night by the DSS in the name of fighting corruption? Many of them were acquitted.
What about the illegality involved in disposing the former CJN-Justice Onneghen & enthronement of Tanko even it's know that the latter was corrupt? 

What about the senseless "national security supersedes the rule of law" statement? What about coercion of the judiciary to manipulate & win elections as the courts now decide winners of elections in Nigeria?

This is all because of the bastardization of our electoral and democratic processes hence administration of criminal justice is very slow.Abeg make we hear word.

Corruption has been institutionalized and the person proposing the time limit contributed to the rot in the system. When someone smart enough to understand how to run a country is elected, i will give a suggestion. My suggestion will not even be needed because a smart person will know what to do .No need filling a basket with water
