Interesting piece. I expect Chilwell to be good defensively. I remember how Mourinho benched Filipe Luis and instead played Cesar at LB for the same reason. It's called full back not full front, nor wing back. That's why it's a back four not a back two. Those days of 4-4-2 will a LB over lap a LM

U clearly don't watch Chelsea games..

Alonso is not a LB.

Even in his Fiorentina days he played LWB..

He is one of the best LWB in the EPL but a poor LB.. The requirements of a LB and LWB are different

Loftus-cheek,conor gallagher and ampadu are the best players in training these week.
i am really happy that loftus cheek is putting tremendous effort in training if all chelsea fans have forgotten you i still remember you.

i am also happy southgate did not include cho in his squad, cho will join the u21 squad along with gallagher and guehi. Playing for the 21s will help them shine wella.

Alonso being better attacking wise is not in the quality of his deliveries or his ability to beat his man and whip in quality crosses from the left.. It's cos of his shooting and eye for goal.

As a LB, u need pace to move up and down the field (something Alonso lacks a lot).. U also should be able to at least beat one opposing player and put in a good cross for ur attackers every once in a while..

Alonso is a better Left wing back no doubt, arguably the best in the world on his day.

But as a LB? In a team that presses high? Nah

Chilwell can't be worse than he is. If not for anything at all, his pace gives him an advantage
