Chelsea sign Thiago Silva on free transfer to bolster Lampard's defence

Chelsea have followed the £50m signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester by landing Thiago Silva on a free transfer and are putting the finishing touches to their £90m move for the Bayer Leverkusen forward Kai Havertz.

Frank Lampard has been searching for defensive reinforcements and the chance to sign the 35-year-old Silva, who left Paris Saint-Germain after their defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, was seen as too good to turn down.

I am totally indifferent about this signing

Chelsea have had by far the best transfer window in a long while... They had successfully brought in perfect signings for troubled positions.. Whether Lampard can use dem well is a story for anoda day

I think I know Lampard's plan


Year 1 (last year): Integrate the youths into the squad.

Year 2 (this year): sign new transfers to beef up the squad and make it stronger.

Year 3 (next year): Win the premier League and possibly the champions League.
