Navy - Open palm facing the ground
In Indian Navy, a salute is executed with the palm facing the ground at a 90 degree angle to the forehead.

Basically, the reason behind this is to hide the hands of sailors that get dirty due to oil or grease stains while working on the ship.

Queenlovely:
You will surprised to know the meaning behind the salutes of our tri-services.

Most national armies use only two forms of salute; the Palm outward, or the Palm downwards.
Palm outwards:
the army and the airforce salute with palm outwards, as it originated in tipping a visor.
The royal navy uses the palm down salute because in the old days, their gloves were dirty from touching rigging and it was seen as impolite to render a dirty

I want others to learn too
One, use pictures of Nigerian Army /soldiers saluting so we can understand. Because there are many ways our officers salute here in Nigeria .

Respect is reciprocal. If you salute hunger, hunger will salute you back.
