But the regions within mount kenya, talk of nyahururu and the likes which are barely 1000m above the sea level receive less than 5°C at times, the lowest temp ever received in mount kenya region Is ( - 9°C) on the peak and (- 4°C ) on the base.

I lived in Potchefstroom for 5 years...never snows but winters would regularly hit sub 0 and even hit (- 9C) the one night.

But by far the coldest place in SA would be Sutherland.... Talking about temperatures hitting nearly - 20 C

And FYI, talking of high altitude regions, mount kenya is a no go zone. Currently the regions within have been blanketed with fog. The dew in Nairobi is slightly beyond visibility during peek hours.

-20 is close to Kilimanjaro's temperature which goes as cold as -29 Celsius!

not bad. But - 20°c will trigger some question marks. All in all, the lowest ever recorded temp outside mount kenya in Kenya was - 6°C back in 1994-1996 . Since then, no temp has ever hit that mark again, maybe at the peak of Mount kenya.
Meanwhile, this is the serene nyahururu region where - 6°C once hit.

you guys are lucky it regularly hit -5 and -6 when I was still living in Potchefstroom....... In the mornings I had to scrap the ice from my windscreen before driving to work....

Luckily Mossel Bay(where I live now) is basically the Hawaii of SA never really gets below 10C(except on rare occasions) ..... apparently Mossel Bay has the second most mildest climate in the world after Hawaii.
