Solo Leveling is a power fantasy dumbed down to its simplest level. The plot is incredibly linear and predictably. The main character is incredibly bland so that the readers can live through him vicariously. I had high hopes for it due to all the hype but I'm a little disappointed.

However, I can understand why it's so popular. It makes for incredibly easy reading, the art is good and the action scenes are long and frequent, I can easily breeze through 10 chapters in one sitting. I can easily skim through the dialogue without missing out on any important information. I can pick it up after a long period of time without getting confused. So at the end of the day it's just good enough for me to keep reading.

About 20 of them went on that mission and they were about to die until Jin-woo came and single-handedly completed the mission.

I can't believe I used to think the S rank hunters were strong.
About 20 of them went on that mission and they were about to die until Jin-woo came and single-handedly completed the mission.

And Solo leveling might seem repetitive at first, as all manhwas (except a handful), but the plot thickens later and a lot of surprising sh!t happens later on... I got to know this by reading a bit of spoilers on the novels.

Better world building
Better power system
Better plot
The only side I see solo leveling beating hxh is art style

And it's easy to say HxH is like every other shonen anime cos you watched it late. It feels that way because HxH inspired a lot of other shonen anime. It's a shonen icon.

i agree on goh. Plot is zero, character development is wack...they just went straight to fight, and fight only. It's like using magic to cook food 'cause you're too hungry to wait for normal process; then it will only be proper for you to start seeing shinigamis and onis and live-action teletubby characters after eating the magic-food.
