Corruption & Lack Of Accountability Are Part Of Nigeria’s Problems - Pst Adeboye by prof2007(op): 5:16am On Sep 13, 2020
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said the Nigerian government has enough money to provide palliatives for every citizen, but that corruption and lack of accountability are the country’s problems. He added that the church, for example, spent between N250m and N400m monthly on corporate social responsibility, saying government must attend to the demands of the people.

The cleric spoke at the monthly thanksgiving service at RCCG Headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta, Lagos State. Pastor Adeboye, who was represented by the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said he was full of praises to God for intervening in the COVID-19 crisis in the country. The service was themed ‘Victory over lockdown.’

He said, “To say there is not enough money to give palliatives to Nigerians is an understatement because Nigeria has the money. But the problem known to everyone is corruption and lack of accountability. For example, in RCCG, we spend a substantial amount of money on corporate social responsibility of between N250m and N400m every month.”

While commenting on the hike in the pump price of fuel and electricity, Adeboye noted that the government needed to be considerate with its people and reconsider introducing such policies at a time people were just getting relief from the scourge of COVID-19.

Unfortunately, our religious organisations have either knowingly or unknowingly help make matters worse.

Most of the corrupt individuals in our society are members of one religious body or the other. But the leaders of most of those Churches, Mosques or Shrine usually keep quiet, keep welcoming and praying for them.

Despite obvious signs that they are corrupt.

Plus the stories of financial mismanagement and theft emanating from our religious bodies no dey help matter.

Pastor embezzle money, Alfa caught with money ritual stuffs, Shrine priests requesting for human parts for sacrifices.

The fire has travelled to and is burning on the river, where we least expected.

RCCG alone contributing between 250-400m naira monthly for social responsibility? There's money in Churches.

However we can not continue talking about Nigeria problems as it's an obvious reality without a visible or conscientious effort to change. It's frustrating!

Tackling corruption and accountability is simple...the politicians are only opposed to it because it would deny them the avenue to loot.

Using the Peter Obi template:

- Win a contract,
- The Govt signs a bank bond of payment,
- Execute the project,
- Get a signed completion report from the chief/oba/emir of the area,
- Get a signed completion report from the youth leaders/women leaders of the area,
- Get a completion report from the resident association of the area,
- A published newspaper report of the completed project for 1 week running,

There is no way you can jump the hurdles or cheat the system without the project being done according to contract standard
