Guys, I impregnated a girl but I couldn't marry the girl. While the girl was carrying the pregnancy, the parents demanded that I should settle their daughter and go my way. Initially I refused but I later on gave them 400k for the child upkeep and everything. Now it has been 2 months since after the child was born. The last time I went there to visit the child, the parents spoke rudely to me and walked me out of their house and told me never to come back. This happened in Anambra. I know the tradition but the only thing I am asking is visitation rights to the child. I am not taking the child or whatever. I want to sue them to court to request for visitation right. Do I stand a chance of winning the case? |

Nwaotu:This is where the law stands on your case. Sections 68 and 69 of the Child’s Right Act, Cap C50, LFN, 2010 which relates to access to and custody of a child born outside wedlock, allows a Father or Mother of a child born outside wedlock to file an application before the Family Court established under the Act, seeking an order granting him/her custody and parental responsibility for the child, and/or right of access to the child in the absence of custody. This means that you have full rights to have access and custody of your child so long as you can prove beyond reasonable doubt that you are capable both mentally, physically and financially to take care of the child. Just approach the court nearest to you and get an order from them allowing you to have access to your child. If your girl's people still refuse, then report them to the court and leave the rest for the police. Make sure you have enough cash to hire a competent lawyer and settle police |
