It doesn't always work that way and I will tell you why. If your emphasis on foundation is based on points acquired in the previous season, then Leceister wouldn't have won the league because they almost relegated before the title winning year. In 2017, I could remember Man U finished as EPL runners up but ended the following season in 6th position.
