Here is what he wrote in July 1949 on his west Africa pilot newspaper.

Together with one Charles onyeama.

You can as well read his letter to northern leaders in 1954 when they were planning leaving Nigeria.

Abi o, jare!!!

To think two years after making such an seditious speech, zik was plotting how he can be in charge of his closest rival's domain.

Zik and his duplicitous men never forgave Awo for thwarting their obnoxious objective in our land.

7 decades later they are still wailing because we didn't allow them to "dominate" us.

You asked for proof of his speech.

I provided the one he wrote on his newspaper, west African pilot.

And also, what a certain Charles onyeama (a legislative leader) said.

Isn't that enough?

You asked for it Sir.
Oga a speech that was made in a pan Igbo meeting ? What do u expect ?

Who does that translate to coup ....igbos plan is to dominate the world based on merit ...we don't hide that fact ...we say it everyday

We are the most intelligent group in Africa we say that always

How does that translate to coup

If igbos wanted to dominate won't it be obvious from the Eastern region ? ..but and independent report found no truth to the false accusations

This doesn't take away the fact that the coup plotters planned to hand over to awo

I don't know why you're shifting the goal post.

Here is the timeline;

Zik made that comment in 1949.

Few years after, he installed a premier in his native Eastern region, and in a bid to achieve his plan came to the Western region to context (which is very stupid), he lost.

Then the generation election (I don't know the best way to say this) came which his party came out victorious, Then the time to form the government came, the Western leader travelled to Asaba to finalize AG and ziks party joint govt. But instead Zik colluded with his Northern masters)
(it's obvious he felt Awolowo would not be a pushover, he taught the Fulanis master would be, but he was wrong)

We all saw/read how he appointed Igbo people to held some organisations in the west like UI Vc, Unilag VC despite tens of hundreds of qualified native westerners.

What about the wahala in the Western house? Was it not caused by Zik and his northern masters?
.
.
.
Now he saw that the Igbo domination wasn't coming forth as expected, what can we do..
Let's kill Their leaders......

Few months to the coup, he travelled.
Some Igbo senior military officers resigned few days to the coup.

And the five Majors executed the plan, pheew.

Ironsi assumed the post of the head of state, instead of punishing the coupist, he refused and promoted them.

Isn't the timeline above obvious?

"Igbo domination of Nigeria is only a matter of time"
Charles Onyeama
1945.

Why post this now..we all read history and knew what went wrong.....instead of posting this to hate and divide the country, why not post reports about the fuel price and electricity traffic increase....that will go along way
You need to know where you are coming from before you can plan where you are going to and by the way which History book did you read this from

What could be the cause of the bloody coup, was it because Nnamdi Azikiwe's famous domination plan wasn't coming as expected ( though you folks dominated the the civil and military service then, perhaps Azikiwe, Ironsi and the 5 Igbo killers wanted TOTAL domination?)

Why did Azikiwe travelled in build up to these night of blood?
So, are SSerners now Igbos?
The answer will buttress your point

It important to know the history and the root cause of this mess, the first coup derailed the country which gives birth to series of coup and counter coup, it gives birth to people like Obasanjo, Buhari and Babangida to ever grace the first office of this country hence the whole mess we have now. Ibo coup and they are really enjoying the consequences of their actions.

has coup derail any other country if not Nigeria? didn't Ghana had a coup before us? Iran, Bahrain, Egypt and even small Togo who first had the first coup in west Africa were not derail and selfish leaders were not produced in that countries...if you label it the i no coup, then the second one was fulani/Hausa revenge coup, abi?
forget all this drama my brother, we just had selfish leaders then in Zink, Awo and Sarduna..they all killed this country!

* Prime minister, Tafawa Balewa was abducted from his home and his body was dumped along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

Sir Ahmadu Bello was killed in his home together with his wife, his security assistant and driver.

Chief Samuel Akintola was gunned gun in the presence of his family.

Festus Okotie-Eboh, the Minister of Finance, who was brutalised, abducted from his home and whose body was later dumped in a bush.

The nepotistic endeavors of Tafawa Balewa gave Nigeria a goon called Muhamandu Buhari and others like him.

Azikiwe in one of his speech iterated how the gods designed Igbos to dominate Nigeria, how he was the only leader to reject the succession clause.

We all saw/read about the atrocities he committed in the Western region ;

From kicking against movement of capital away from Lagos, the Yorubas/Western region never wanted the FCT.

How he masterminded the mid-west referendum (well, i may be wrong)

Trying to be premier of Western region.

Calling Lagos a no man's land.

Involvement in Akintola/Awolowo (together with northern leaders) which led to Awo spending few year in prison etcetera.

He had the chance to form the government with Awolowo but refused, he knew he would not be able to achieve his domination plan because Awolowo is one hell of a brilliant man, he chooses to form it with the fulani thinking they would be pushover, but he was wrong.
It's audible to the deaf and clear to the blind that his inability to totally control the government led to the coup, he clearly had a hand in the coup.

He wouldn't have travel prior to the coup.

And talking about the coupist plan to install Awolowo, isn't that foolish ?
You mean the same Awolowo that was jailed by Eastern and Northern joint leadership?

Let's look at it from this angle, the coup took place on the 15th of january, and he, Awolowo was still in the prison untill July? (That's some 6 months after the coup) and the coupist didn't still release awo from prison, didn't that sound foolish?

Ironsi didn't punish the coupist and that shows that he has a hand in it too, Ironsi should have release Awo from prison since you said the objective of the coup was to pave way for Awolowo.

Let's argue with logic nah.

Dunces are danger to the society. Ironsi, as an army general, does not have addition power outside the mandate of constitution and military code of conduct to punish a coup plotter. In a hurry to justify their silly pitching tent with northern region of Nigeria in a war against eastern region, the hack writers from western region of Nigeria concocted all kinds of rubbish,

Prof (?) pls, STFU jo!!

Ironsi had no power outside the mandate of which constitution? Are you referring to the constitution, he abolished after taking over power at gun point?

Somehow and somewhere though, he found the military code of conduct bunkum with which he utilised to punish Adaka boro but not his own (Ironsi's) kinsmen whose coup plotting brought him into power.

I implore you to go take your meds.

Did he also abolish the military code of conduct? Adaka Boro was not a soldier and cannot be accorded the merits of UCMJ for his silly action which could not pass as a mutiny. Who was pointing the gun and to whom?
