Do You Think The UAE Is A Place To Work And Raise A Family. by Nobody: 12:09pm On Sep 20, 2020
My parents are ready to sponsor my travel abroad, the UAE to be precise but refused to support my little business. I'm a graduate of STATISTICS, and I'm awaiting NYSC. Now, I'm considering traveling. Do you think Dubai is a good country to live and work in and maybe raise a family. What are your thoughts, I don't want to make a wrong decision?

For work, kind of.
For raising a family, certainly NO.

Even for work, I won't recommend. First of all, the UAE has stopped issuing visas to Nigerians including work permits. Secondly, even when they used to issue work permits to Nigerians, they only hire Nigerians to do work that requires hard labor like construction. Nigerian or African women are hired to do housekeeping or babysitting. UAE does not hire Africans for professional jobs even if you are qualified for such jobs and have the experience.

The UAE does not grant citizenship to foreigners so no matter how long OP lives there, he will be expected to return back to Nigeria at some point. The UAE introduced permanent residency in 2019 but it is geared towards "investors" - read "white people" - and people who are professionals but then again you are given a "gold card" which is what their permanent residency card is called and it's only valid for 10 years. Then it can be renewed again for another 10 years. But then after that then what? You will never be granted their citizenship.

Lastly, arabs are very racist and don't like Black people. Why would any African in their right mind migrate to the arab world to live? I know Nigeria is doing poorly as a nation but migrating to a racially hostile country for whatever reason is not the way to go. That can be likened to moving from frying pan to fire.

There are some Nigerians that have lost their lives living in all these racially hostile environments but it never makes mainstream news because people of other racial groups don't care when Black people loose their lives tragically.

So our people better be careful because life has no duplicate. It is better to be a living dog in Nigeria or Africa than a a dead lion in UAE, europe, USA, asia or anywhere else. Just saying.

Really coming here , I mean Dubai to uzle is better than Nigeria my brother but honestly it is not a place to settle down and raise family. If you don't earn salary of about 7000dirham upward, here is not worth coming.. Moreso that Nigeria has cast here.
