The death toll from Boko Haram attack on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has risen to 30, security sources said Saturday.

Two sources told AFP the number of fatalities from the attack Friday had doubled as more bodies were found and now included 12 policemen, five soldiers, four members of a government-backed militia, and nine civilians.

“The tally has increased to 30 as many bodies were picked in the surrounding areas after the attack,” one of the sources said, adding that “many people were injured”.

The PUNCH had reported that an ambush on the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Friday left about 15 persons dead.

The governor’s convoy was said to have been attacked between Monguno and Baga areas of the state.

A security source said the attack left mainly security personnel comprising eight policemen, three soldiers and four Civilian Joint Task Force operatives dead.

A source at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri also told our correspondent that the governor had left Maiduguri for Baga to prepare for the planned return of internally displaced persons from Maiduguri to the camps in Baga.

The governor was said to have left Maiduguri with a retinue of armed soldiers, police officers and Civilian-JTF personnel.

A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that he was told eight persons were killed, including security personnel and civilians.

Friday’s incident is the second attack on the governor’s convoy in recent times around Baga.

Prof Zulum is taking too much risk for a good leader. Always putting his life in danger.

His advisors need to sit him down and make him understand that he can not help his people if he’s not alive. He can be effective from his office while preserving his own life...

Zulum is like someone who don't take advice especially when it comes to the well-being of his people.

Maybe there's no one he can trust enough to delegate some of his duties to.

He probably want his people to see him often, gives them so kind of "we're in this togeda" vibe.

But this is dangerous

See the effects of lies & propaganda? This is the same BH terrorists they said "have been technically defeated" & "terribly downgraded" who "lack the capacity to carry out major attacks" but who is now attacking our military even the convoy of a governor as "soft targets"

Zulum have long became a target by his exposure on the military he seems to forget that the military work hand in hand with Boko Haram?

The ongoing war is an avenue for the high military brass to continue to cash out.The government of the day underplayed its capabilities while tactically giving support to their atrocities by granting them an undeserved amnesty.Continue!

Boko Haram have been defeated

They only attack soft spots now.

Governors convoys are soft spots.

When will Buhari pass through that road as the commander in chief?

I am sorry, I can't understand you embarassed
Are you saying he should hole himself up at the government house in Maiduguri, relying on second hand information ( like some people are currently doing in Aso Rock) and hence erroneously telling his people to go back to their villages as the security situation has improved?
If you rely on people like Mr. Femi and Mallam Garba, you will never get correct picture of what is going on on ground. Those two are like Tariq Aziz of Iraq during the American attack on Iraq; despite the massive explosions at the background, Tariq was still telling BBC in interview that Americans are not in Baghdad smiley

A good leader should be at the forefront of things - not sitting down enjoying all the privileges and doling out orders at will. If Nigeria has just 10 Zulums spread across the country, the country will be better in no time.
