A young girl simply called Blessing and her baby has been held captive for close to 7Months because she was unable to settle the hospital bill. Blessing, according to Mrs Esther Ogwu, Esther Child Rights Foundation who reported the case on Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons platform, gave birth in March through Caesarean section at Mojo hospital at Egbeda shasha in Lagos.

She was charged N350,000 Naira and later the medical director reduced it to N 250,000. She was been able to pay N160,000 but she has been struggling with the balance of N90,000 without luck. The hospital has been holding her captive since March till now.

When the case was reported to Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs Ogwu said the case was reported to Afonka Police Station and they assigned an officer to the case but there has not been any positive result since then.

The inhumane treatment she gets with her baby because of money is very sad. She sleeps with her baby girl on the floor of the hospital. She can not go out to buy anything for herself and the baby except one of the nurses helped her out. Blessing Bassey, a hairdresser had pleaded with the Medical Director to allow her to go and work so as to be able to pay the balance but she totally refused.

Blessing is seeking the help of well-meaning Nigerians to help her and her baby who is already 6 months plus in the hospital. Blessing and her baby girl has been there throughout the Covid-19 lockdown till now.

Interesting advise, except that I don't see a man anywhere in your article.

I see a young girl who became a mother, I see a girl who carried a pregnancy, I see a girl being held hostage inside the hospital, I see a girl sleeping on the floor with her baby... when she gets out, this girl is the one whose lifestyle has been altered as she has now being thrown into the world of motherhood.
Let's not forget she probably doesn't have a job/business.

Meanwhile the hunter is still out there living his life with no care in the world.
Did he commit a crime? NO
Will he be arrested? NO
The day he finally backtracks and decides to be part of the life of the child and the girl, will people advise her to forgive and accept him? YES

Who lost at the end of the day? ONLY THE GIRL.

What if she didn't agree to the act? She was raped, drugged or something? She's not jobless o. Read the article again.

1. If the hospital management believed she had a job to go to which would help her raise money to pay her debt, I'm pretty sure they would have found a way to reach an agreement... hence my use of the phrase 'probably jobless'.

2. If she was raped, it would have been stated in the article especially as the police and a child's rights foundation is on her case.

1. Are you not in Nigeria? Which hospital will let you go without paying your bills even if you are oil company worker? The article says she is a hairdresser.

2. What if the man responsible had deceived her with fake promises like MOST Nigerian men do? And the poor girl scum to his pressure and fell for his tricks?

1. The article says she is a hairdresser because that is what she told them. I don't think they believe her.
If they did, an agreement would be made, I didn't say they would let her go immediately.
She even looks like someone without a family, there's not enough assurance to even let her step out to buy ordinary food for herself, and she's been treated like a prisoner.

2. Whose fault is that?
The person who fell for sweet mouth and opened her towtow wide, or the person with the sweet mouth?

1. This is Nigeria. Even if she proves to them she is working (hairdressing) no hospital will allow her go without paying her bills except she drops something as collateral.

2. It's both parties fault. You can't blame her alone and forgot that the act was done by two people.
