Lagos Assembly Reacts To Proscription of F-SARS, Sends Message To Buhari

The Lagos State House of Assembly has described the eventual proscription of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) as proof that democracy has come to stay.

The House also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for hearkening to the cries of the people and ensuring their immediate wish was met with the disbandment of the police unit.

A statement from the office of the Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, thanked those who took to the streets in Lagos State for their civility while the protests lasted.

Obasa said it was commendable that the protesters carried out their agitations with utmost respect for the authorities as well as government and residents' property and assets.

Recall that the Lagos State House of Assembly had on Friday raised a seven-point resolution one of which was that F-SARS be scrapped.

The state lawmakers had called for the introduction of a better reformed unit of the police.

They had also called on the National Assembly to immediately commence a probe into the allegation of inhuman treatments meted out to innocent Nigerians by the personnel of the police in the unit.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday, finally announced an end to F-SARS and added that other reforms would be announced soon.

"It is a win-win for the country and a proof that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration is prepared to listen to the yearnings of the people where it they matter.

"A special commendation goes to Nigerians who expressed their grievances peacefully for days.

"As the country awaits more police reforms as announced by the IGP, we plead with the masses to remain calm, go about their activities peacefully and continue to be good citizens of the country," the statement said.

The drunk dullard was probably not even aware of the IGP's decision so why give him credit for it. He was in Kaduna for parade while the midget was hiding in his basement.

God bless the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari for hearkening to the voice of the masses and ensuring their immediate wish was met with disbandment of the police unit.

Crispels:
God bless the brave young people that defied the odds to protest. Buhari had no choice - the protest has become a global movement.
Let me lecture you a bit Nairaland member.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad was founded in 1992 by former police commissioner Simeon Danladi Midenda. The major reason SARS was formed was when Col. Rindam, a Nigerian Army Colonel was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos.

Do you know how many Nigerians were killed in the era of PDP?
That they never find anytime to BAN them!
It was business as usual for them......as long as they have money to steal and loot, All the citizens that lost their lives for 16 evil years means nothing to them.

Lol. Oga, I'm not a neophyte. There was no widespread SARS brutality in Nigeria before 2015. When did the END SARS movement began? Buhari only bowed to the global outrage. Nigeria became a trending topic on CNN. Come and see the thousands of people that showed up today here in New York. London was not even left out. Likewise Houston and other major world cities. Them no born a million Buhari well not to end SARS. Imagine world stars like Ozil, Trey Songs, Cardi B and others who already joined the movement. They bowed under intense pressure. Tuesday would have been a total shut down in Nigeria.
Since the BLACK LIVES MATTER in your country begins, and millions of Americans are calling for the DEFUNDING of police in America and much more, can you tell us what your president has done since then?
Over 7 months now!
Why didn't your president where you reside in Houston did something about it since almost everyone in almost every country in the world, all sport teams and clubs in the world are saying BLACK LIVES MATTERS?
Each of the celebrities you mentioned above have shouted BLACK LIVES MATTER and their president never listened to them for once!
So, dem born Donald well (using your slang) not to listen to the cries and complaints of billions of people worldwide?
Sure, you are not a neophyte, just an hypocrite! smiley
Stop being an hypocrite.

Asides sars.. I feel Nigerians are stupid... How many of us protested againt the fuel/electricity hike

Bad governance

Corruption/embezzlement

... That aside..

The end sars protest yielded no result... Why?? Because the same elements remain police officers and will still carry out their nefarious activities as police men...

You all want to know the real demons??... Its the IGP and so many other senior officers... They give those boys demands of alarming monetary returns weekly..

They practically send them to armed robbery in the name of policing..

So until the top is tackled... Nothing changes...

Best bet is to reform the organization

Give dem a better pay package ...

And make strict laws that will make both the unscrupulous junior/senior officers dance to the tune of lawfullness

I have always wondered what that ministry does o. It seems useless like the p in psychology. It appears they just spend money supposedly on training and welfare.

You hardly see the minister coming out to talk sense on any important police matter. I remember Broderick Bozimo as minister under OBJ.

It appears now and then they fuse the ministry with interior ministry. Nobody, except those eating money there, seems to know when it's stand-alone or part of interior.

This protest was done for the wrong reasons, SARS is evil, everyone knows that, but we didn't tackle the problem from the root, We have to get up and remove Buhari from power, we have to fight for our future in this country, we have to protest for a better life not just ending SARS.

This protest should have been about

#End Buhari

or something like

#If you don't employ us, you must pay us

Nevertheless, it's not too late to still come out in mass and tackle the root cause of the problems in this nation.
