#EndSARS: Protesters defy Wike, march to demand police reform

Aggrieved Nigerians, on Tuesday, took to the streets of Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, to protest against police brutality in defiance to the directive of Nyesom Wike, the governor.

On Monday, Wike had placed a ban on protests against the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) of the Nigerian police force in the state.

Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), on Sunday, scrapped the anti-robbery squad following nationwide protests against extrajudicial killings and abuse of human rights.

But despite disbanding the unit, protesters across the country continued their calls for the reform of the police.

Reacting to the campaign against SARS, Wike said there was no need for further protests since the unit has been scrapped.

He, therefore, directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that the ban on protests is enforced and that violators are arrested.

But the protesters converged on Port Harcourt, bearing different placards while chanting “EndSARS”.

They insisted the governor had no right to ban peaceful protests.

SARS is still in Port Harcourt. As at yesterday a guy named tokpe was arrested by Port Harcourt SARS. Sars still dey guy this is posted by Port Harcourt specials Instagram handle

You can't beat a child and ask the same child not to cry. The government has failed for too long, the people demand a better treatment from every government institutions. ENDSARS is just the beginning more to come.

Let all these politicians just go abeg I tire. Too much hardship in this country and they are still looting. Even if you're gonna loot, make sure you do what you are supposed to do like health, good roads, electricity and enabling environment for quality investment. But they've done NONE. Worse still they use our youths as thugs and our daughters as prostitutes (being that they've successfully impoverished them). Too bad!
Youths should not cooperate with them anymore. Any youth who rallies round any politician for 5k (whether apc or PDP) is a fool. Say NO to wicked politicians
