Although, there are some agents telling lies to students about it being a country and job opportunities, and it seems you are a victim of one (@feyang).
Had you been following this thread you'll see there's no sugar coating here, as Wip7 always give explicit answers to every question being asked as well as others on this thread. I don't know what you did or the people you met that made you tag cyprus citizens as unwelcoming, I became friend with some of them and consider them as hospitable.

A lecturer of mine in Yabatech used to make a statement " Yabatech didn't come knocking at your doors, you chose to come.." and I think same applies here North Cyprus (Universites) didn't come knocking at anyone's door, there are varieties of options you can study in private universities in Nigeria or go elsewhere. I believe anyone embarking on a journey (or anything) must be well informed about it before proceeding, which is what this thread is all about.

In fact essence of this thread is to prevent all those sugar-coated agents from deceiving genuine students. That's why I often ensure that agents don't just post and lie here on this particular thread. I have studied abroad, I have sponsored my young ones abroad and I know how difficult it is to fall victims.

I also concluded that the majority of those agents duped; seems not properly educated, highly unexposed, greedy, and over expectant. These days the internet is so big and accessible for any person to validate many lies of the agents.

In 2010, an agent in Kano state (older woman around 50 years duped illiterate father that want to sponsor his sons to Cyprus. The man owns a cattle ranch in Kano and decided to send his two boys to study Engineering at EMU, then I was working at the EMU international office. This woman collected nearly 4 years school fees and accommodation for each child from the man around 16 million per child and she only paid around 1.5 million naira to EMU. The father cannot use internet and the sons were somehow local then but intelligent. I was teaching them at first year and it was after 2nd year when EMU demanded another fees the older son narrated how much his dad paid, thanks to EMU, we coordinated with Nigerian embassy in Turkey to retrive all the money to the man. This was possible because the sons are smart and educated while the father was just listening to the woman and giving out money anyhow. These boys graduated from EMU and doing super great now.

This is relevant to all countries! I met someone in Canada recently; first the passport he has with him has reduced age by 10 years downward, his name is totally switched to another person name. He told me he had lived in USA for years and now in Canada.....with all these endless journey he barely can afford many things. No meaningful achievement except his polished English. In fact, many people misunderstand what abroad is....they often mistaken it to be biblical or Quranic Heaven.

The first problem isn't the country. Its the agents! They lie too much! Damn *** I am currently in TRNC And what I'm learning about them is disgusting, They sold some citizen to slave Trade already and some are stranded big time. Why can't they just inform this people there is no job here? Why can't they just tell them the school policies? Some got to TRNC And discover there school fees is more than what they bargain for. Some got here and find out there is no Job even if you get one dem go òwe you big time!

Secondly, Nobody, I repeat Nobody is stopping anyone from coming abroad but everyone need to know the truth and I know it's not easy in America or other western world but people deserve to know the truth about a particular place. Dont Sugar coat it. As for wip7 I don't know him and He didn't bring me to TRNC I got here on my own but it breaks heart when he pull my postdown let people know about the place there are coming to! It's no crime telling them.

Thirdly, On every student, agent have a particular of money they will take from school for bring each student which is running to €450... This is slave trade to me, why will school ask you to sell your fellow country men? Also school policies won't allow some continue when they get here, and if you don't go to school you can't get immigration status. And How will you go to school when the fee you planned isn't what you met?

Lastly, as for me I came to TRNC on my own and I know how much I spent back then doing running and processes on my own, it break my heart listening to fellow students whom agents took as much as 2million naira (including school deposit) from to get to TRNC. That's bad! Some people parent took loans and what they promise those student is that they won't have to pay anything here again apart from rent and there is Job! TRNC won't come knocking at your door, You chose to come but anyone coming still need to know the TRUTH! The Truth is very important. People here lie too much some even say they have what they don't have or can't have in 200 years! Damn****

EVERYONE BE SHARP, IF YOU WANT TO COME TO NORTH CYPRUS HAVE ENOUGH CASH OR STRONG SPONSORS!

STUDY AND LEAVE! DON'T LET ANYONE SELL YOU INTO SYSTEMATIC SLAVE TRADE.

GOOD BLESS NIGERIA

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Don't pay rent in Dollars, Euros or Pounds. Don't listen to agents telling you rents are in thr above currencies. All TRNC citizens pay rent in TL they don't pay in hard currencies and recently the country encourage landlord to take rent in Turkish Lira(TL) don't convert TL to Euro or Dollars it's going to be higher! Don't listen to them

A free tip for people coming to Léfkosa

Ask anyone you are going to Hamitkoy, There are student dormitories around Hamitkoy between the range of 1000-1500 TL

Walk Into their office and make payment. Accommodation ranges for 5months - 12 months

Both deposit and rent are in TL

1 deposit, 5-12months rent and No commission

There are so many of them in lefkosa region

The way some people throw allegation on here no be small thing. I realize most of Nigerians like to be spoon feed, anyone that reads this thread very well will know people with good intentions, Wip as been of great up to people both here and offline. I believe anyone that wants to relocate to another country ought to make research on his/her, no knowledge is wasted.
Thanks to technology, it’s only a dummy that can be lied too in this modern age, well all the information u need out there is on internet. Everything is straight forward, institutions paying for referrals is not modern day slavery as someone put above, because most schools like EMU breaks down the total amount to be paid for any chosen program, but greed as eaten deep into some people, nobody is your friend on the island, majority only wants to use you. Shine your eyes, i have worked and lived in UAE, we Nigerians are truly our own problem, people have lost a lot all in the name of greener pasture, agents lie to people who is too lazy or too big to make research on their own before going to another man’s country. I try to research about any country I am going from Nigerians and non Nigerians to get a glimpse of what I am getting into. Information can save a lot of things.

Are you coming to EMU? master or PhD student? Sciences/chemical based? I have just gotten a great news. My project funding 1.5 million TL has been approved by Turkish goverment just few hours ago. This funding will pay entire fees of 3 PhD students and 2 master students working in the exact research theme. PhD students will have monthly salary of 4500 TL and project last for 2 years although renewable depends on progress.

I have contributed largely and positively to this thread of dedicated researchers, my aim is to guide upcoming African and support them via training and am very happy that I have numbers of students who graduated from my lab doing super great in various developed nations:

@wip,I am heading to EMU masters program, but I am not a science student. Sad face, this is really a great opportunity, I doubt any Nigeria university have opportunities for their post graduate students like, Las las, Cyprus is a good place to start if you have the means to pay your tuition and other expenses or extremely brilliant, I used to know an Igbo guy in EMU 2012, he was an engineering student, he got an offer as assistant, uni was paying him stipend, plus tuition waiver. What I am trying to point out is, nobody sees a potential and would want to let the person go. You have to discover yourself first before you leave your country to any foreign land.

Okay then, as non-science, essence of graduate studies is to develop solutions to challenges.

Dont forget at EMU you will be paid for each research paper you published. Here is currently what EMU pays you irrespective as a student and for conferences student can get one time support. For each of this, Turkish goverment also pays you alongside provided the address of your publication follows the Turkish location. All these must be reputable to benefit!

Good evening professor Wip7,
I have been following this thread for at least 7 years. I have made many researches about TRNC and EMU, even sent you emails about admission. I have been inhibited by funds.

I have my Master's in Fossil fuels Chemistry, with research interests in using Mesoporous carbon (this is getting out of date) or nano technology to remove pollutants in industrial waste water or fuel. I'm flexible about this.

I would like to pitch in for this opportunity you mentioned here. With a ready heart and good academic record, I will be an asset to your research team as a PhD student. Kindly consider sir.

I recently replied my email now. If you are going to work on medical devices and biotech, it will be nice. My team and department just approved full 100% for two Nigerians (lady and guy) and they will join my team for this semester.

At EMU, we currently don’t have master or Phd degree programs in Biomedical engineering we only have it at undergrad level. I think some universities have it in TRNC. If you find yourself in TRNC for that program in another university you can always make use of my lab and also join us. The two guys offered full 100% scholarship will work on rapid detection of prostate cancer from urine using the sensors we would develop.

Each semester, we do offer FULL scholarship for students with good results in our department there are few things we consider and majorly will be research based.

You left your mobile, I will ring you now....

Each semester we offer FULL scholarship (Just Tuition, while accommodation and registration will be borne by the recipient). We majorly look at your undergraduate CGPA and during meetings we look if your research aligns with us then we can offer you a full scholarship. You can apply to our department if your background fits our department please send me a comprehensive CV that includes your CGPAs and research experience. From your work on Industrial wastewater that is my strong field, so definitely I can work with you. If it fits I will advise you to apply to us for next semester. Before next semester, I shall share with your some tips to assist you if you are ready to work.

If you get in and you can be dedicated and get atleast 4 publications per year, the publication money you will receive be enough for your accommodation for full-year and other related benefits. I will show you how you get all these done by the university and Turkish goverment.

For my team; 2020 projection we had in January was 35 papers and that will fetch us 65,000$....we have achieved 65% and we have submitted more work which are under reviews.....we are confident to get this done by December 2020.

Send me your detailed CV, transcript, and leave your mobile there. Am working on our official website so potential researchers can see available opportunities to join us.

Your pcr should not be done more than 120 hrs (5 days) as at the time you’ll be landing in Ercan, Cyprus , so just check your itinerary and calculate what day to do the test. I’ll advise do it a day before travelling in case the test can be ready under 24 hours else just do the test 2 days before travelling. The result can be mailed to you and you print it out in Abuja. My students have done theirs recently and in quarantine in Cyprus .

If you are very interested in Biotech, since they are not going to run it in January which likely due to number of admitted students not enough to open the program:

First option

You can select to join in May 2021 since the program will be opened by that time.

Second option

Also, I believe that you applied for the Biotech normal fast-track option! You can ask them to shift you to their Biotechnology - Advanced (Fast Track) option which seems to still be available for Jan 2021 pending the waitlist.

Third option

You may decide to take their Food Science Tech (its opened for Jan 2021) which has some similar courses with the biotech in the first semester, so after first semester you can switch back to your Biotech during Summer and get exemption of the related courses from FST.

Best wishes

I did the test at 54gene Maitama Gardens 52 hours to my Flight boarding time, received the result before the next morning via email. By the time I arrived North Cyprus my result was still valid, left Quarantine 2 days ago. The PCR (Covid-19) Test is taken very seriously at the various airports and more seriously at Ercan Airport, North Cyprus. You submit your test result, before getting to a Passport Control officer, after you've been stamped in, your passport is withheld and you are asked to collect your luggage. They place you and some others and take you to a Quarantine location, a hotel.
