One of these billionaire companies should come and acquire Nairaland...

Reasons

I don't see this as good news.

A future giant has just been snapped Up by a foreign company.

All the profits will now move abroad.

The day a foreign company will acquire Nairaland, you will see the difference between a company run by foreigners and that by a Nigerian.

I have known Nairaland for years, you rarely see new features on it.

If it was owned by a white man, you would wake up almost every week to new features.

We are backward in this country for a reason

Over $200m. That's some massive funds. Congrats man! cool

Bro not really impressive to me..

They will soon place some limitations on Nigerians..

They will soon place a policy on Nigerians that will require Nigerians to go an extra mile just to have an account with them.

There is nothing good about foreign companies swallowing up any bright indigenous company.

The shareholders will smile to the Bank, but that is all.
The country is worse off.

When I read that canal+ acquired Rok studios for $100m, I realised that Nigerians are very short-sighted.

Nigerians would have sold apple or YouTube when they were still struggling.

So it use to shock you too abi cheesy

15 years and nothing to show for it
The speedy progress that Nairaland could have been experiencing now is only being dented by the ignorance and greediness of so called mods and founders that only put much attention on ads
People bringing their ads to Nairaland are really trying.I barely read or even see them

Truly backward site.Especially in 2020

Fact is, you haven't achieved anything related to what you studied so even if you read computer science, you still won't get to PayStack level.

YouTube was sold to google bros. Besides acquisitions aren't always a bad thing. A lot of companies are acquired by big tech giants daily. It speaks good for Nigerian ecosystems and the talent we have. If this continues, a lot of Nigerian programmers will be able to get remote jobs with companies abroad and also funding for their own ideas which would lead to upward social mobility. Rejoice!!!!

I'm I the only one that think it's not an appropriate deal for paystack? Google wanted to be purchased by yahoo for few million dollars during its growth stage but refused, now it's a trillion dollar company, same as facebook and lots more. Why cash out now when you can rip more and more in the future ?

Damn.

This is the same thing US does to Israel on a massive scale.
Leaching off the massive Israeli tech sector.

From tech to even entertainment.

Netflix is buying off Israeli series now.

The good thing is that Israel is getting a lot in return too.
I can't say the same for Africa.

good news

They should give us full stripe capabilities oo
make dem no do like PayPal that just added Nigeria just for adding sake that even ordinary Niger Republic and Lesotho has better functional features than Nigeria

Stripe will still put some restriction to guide against fraud.

You know that fraud is our second name.

From politicians to jobless youth on the streets of Nigeria.

However, thanks to stripes and its management for finding it necessary to add Nigeria to their platform or specifically acquiring paystack.

Nigeria is a big market for them considering the number of Nigerians that are involved in ecommerce, e-shopping.

YouTube was sold to google for peanuts and the previous owners regret It till today.

That is typical Nigerian behaviour.

I don't see how not selling off our best tech companies stop Nigerians from getting jobs from abroad.

In fact , if companies like paystack grow to be world Standard, it would do better in marketing Nigerian programming skills.

It is not yet late bro.

The beautiful thing about programming is that you don't need school degrees to learn it and you definitely still don't need school degrees to get a job on it.

If you can't download Youtube videos to teach yourself, find somewhere around where they teach it. Get good mentoring and pick a niche!

There you go.

1.65 billion dollars is peanuts. Do you even know how much it would have cost for the founders to maintain YouTube if they didn't sell. Maybe they didn't have the resources then to scale the platform. The founder is worth over 300 million dollars and has stakes in a ton of successful startups. Poverty can never near his generation. The social effects of YouTube too are immense. Many people have learnt skills there and the content creators make money from ads. It's not always bad to be acquired. In this case, it's amazing for Nigeria.

Yes, a billion dollars is peanuts when you consider that YouTube is worth $300b today.

If the cost of maintaining YouTube was great, he could have gotten outside investment without completely losing ownership.
Zukerbag was just a student when he founded Facebook.
He did not sell Facebook because of the cost of maintainace even when bill gates made an offer.
He was smarter than most grown men.

Yes, the previous owner of YouTube IS a millionaire by all standards.
But he could have been a billionaire today without needing to invest in various start ups.
