Patrick Osajie Omojiade, a Police Officer killed by the Nigeria Police Force. On the 2nd of May 2012, Patrick left home saying to his loving mother, “Mum I will be back first thing in the morning". His mum replied, "go well my son" not knowing that was going to be the last time she will set her eyes on him. Patrick left this world with a lot of hope, belief and aspirations to be a better Nigerian. His kind of policing was rare, yet Nigeria and the police force failed him. He stood for truth and justice but his colleagues and DPO were all against him. If he had known they had planned his death, he wouldn't have gone to work that fateful day.

His DPO (DSP Tolani) and colleagues lured him into the police van, drove him to Makoko roundabout in the night and they killed him. Then they dumped his corpse at Gbagada morgue, claiming he was shot by armed robbers and they left without registration of death.
We waited for him the next day but he never returned. His family went to the office which was Adekunle Police station, Yaba and no officer could explain what happened. Then the DPO appeared after about 5hrs to say he was shot dead by armed robbers, then he proposed burying him immediately. We refused his proposal and demanded to see his body. After a long and heated argument, we were allowed to go to the morgue. When his corpse was brought forward, it was shocking to see the brutal manner with which he was killed. Before we could get back to the station, the DPO had escaped. Autopsy reports confirmed head laceration from gun butt, strangulation and other physical violence.

Today, the Nigeria Police has swept the case under the carpet while the other officers who killed him are still in the force.
Patrick will always be remembered, and in the spirit of the #EndPoliceBrutality...
