This is a new season with plenty investment in attacking players. We are not going to play 3 man defence to protect anyone when there are expensive attacking players to fit in. You can't drive a Ferrari like a Beetle.

At the very least, the clubs official line is that Kepa is still considered highly and Mendy is only being brought to challenge him, not to throw him away in the dustbin. This means Kepa is at least guaranteed to be 2nd choice keeper. Left to Lampard alone, he will throw Kepa all the way inside the dustbin and use Caballero and Baxter sef if Mendy is injured.
