Maybe I need to watch the replay, again. But the moment it happened I knew it was a penalty and a red. Though a yellow would have been fine.

In fact Pique spent most of the time trying to remove the player's right hand from hindering him.
I wonder if Pique was supposed to just allow him score without disturbing him.

I checked YouTube. Pique pulled the guy down in the box. And he was the last man. It could have seemed they were tugging initially . But, Pique was clearly guilty. This undebatable.

Usually, most strikers try to bully-off defenders to make way, especially when trying to complete a dribble or take a run. It depends on the type of striker though.
The guy almost succeeded and that was why Pique reacted.

That was a clear foul. At first both were on 50/50 challenge, with the guy tugging of pique. Then the guy used speed and was ahead of pique. Pique held his shirt, and even drew his shirt sef. That alone is a yellow card offence. Pique been the last man justifiably made it a red card offence
