there's this saying that goes problem known problem half solved. well you can still continue by saying problem known and accepted, problem half solved. over the years, Nigerians have been talking about our problem on tv stations and radios but no sign of solution. but the truth in it all is that Nigeria has refused to accept the fact thst population is a major problem.. I'll give you a small example. UI is to admit 150 students for medicine. 2500 passed 180 in jamb and are qualified. the school raised the cut of mark for medicine to 250 and still 1000 passed yet they need 150. those with long leg and connection with 250 and above are 50 now they need 100 from 950 qualified.. 100 taken the rest were spread across other science course with 50% determined to reapply for medicine the following year. yes another 30% from other courses reapplied, more who were denied the previous year reapplied, and fresh secondary school students applied. growing the number of applicants the following year to 3500. and yet the school still takes in 150 at most.. on this scenario, people are qualified but yet denied because of excess applicants . competitive parents would tell their wards to read harder and score much higher so they'll be exceptional but in reality those with 280 and 320 are exceptionally good already... people are being denied not because they are bad but because the competition is massive. verdict: population growth is massive but food production for that population is not up to expectations. it's either we increase productivity or reduce birth rate if we want things to get better or we would wail forever. my advice: reduce birth rate and increase productivity . may God see us through.. |

Sad when illiterates without any understanding of sociology open threads to offer baseless opinions and suggestions. Go get a small book, read it, and see how many countries are more populated than Nigeria per square meter mile! Yet, they're doing much better, and some countries are planning to increase their population to meet all aspects of their needs. For all the problems you enumerated, you're are scared to say that the real problem we have in Nigeria is basically LEADERSHIP! |

eagleu:lol!! everyday we identify and talk about poor leadership as a major problem in this country and up till today no improvement. if only we are productive and innovative as much as our population growth then maybe things would have been better. every year UI are producing a slot of 150 and still yearly the applicants for that same slot keeps growing, didn't that give you a clue of where am going and why our I name the topic underproductive overpopulation? well I'm not surprised by your response cos even educated people don't see this as a problem, same thing with our leaders... more than 90% of Nigerians don't really see this as a problem and are still not willing to see it as. hence in a democratic settings, no point for leaders to raise alarm and do something about it. Nigeria is richest in africa by Gdp but GDP per individual were one of the poorest.. |
