This was done to punish the protesters. Poverty is a huge factor those idiots in power use to rule us. If the people are hungry or suffering, they will crawl to you for handouts; ever ready to carry out your bidding. I went with a friend once to collect money being owed to him. The debtor used me and him to run menial errands for a few hours before paying half of the money, aiming to use him again when he comes for the remaining half.
