Clueless Abuja IG

He should visit orile station where every thing started in Lagos.

For now police should work and patrol with the navy, army and air force till they regain there moral.

Under cover Intelligence unit should go to areas were police men were murdered and station burnt. They should go there and investigate and arrest all the hoodlums that killed and burnt police station..especially orile.

Lastly they should work with videos circulated online where police men were lynched, and arrest those involved.
We are trying to de-escalate here. Arresting hoodlums will bring out more gore from them. Just yesterday, they did candlelight procession for one of their fellows who was felled. They swarmed Coker area with knives, daggers, bottles in broad daylight around 10am to unlease mini mayhem, even know they didn't harm anyone, but they made businesses close for a while. Those hoodlums are numerous and the police can't even arrest a quarter of them successfully, leaving three quarters of them to go for revenge.

Biko, scores is now 1-1 between Police and hoodlums. Let's take it like that and try to be better going forward.

Let's not forget Orile police station got burnt after a police officer there opened fire and killed a street guy in broad daylight.

I still blame the top hierarchy of the police. The bulk of the badness and corruption is from them. Imagine most DTO -Divisional Traffic Officers collecting returns from those they post to control traffic on the roads thereby making the junior officers on the road to collect bribe. The DPOs are not left out too who collect money. The Station. Officers - SO, are other corrupt cops. The police need serious reforms and their salaries should be increased. Their security should be guaranteed and good welfare as well.

28 officers killed, some innocent, how sad. But how many civilians died too? Definitely higher. How many civilians have suffered from unwanton extrajudicial killings from police without any sympathy from govt and police? How many civilians have been wasted by police this year alone? Now they get a small taste of the terror they have been unleashing on society over the years and they are sad. Suck it up boys, the police just walked a "day" in the shoes Nigerians have been walking in for many "decades".

It is those criminals that have vandetta with police that killed officers, no reasonable individual will kill a police man...when the police is for.public order...may the lives of the fallen officers rest in peace.

RaptObserver:

If we get our educational sector to work well, the police brutality will not be there and the consequent hostilities towards police will also not be there. Education is key.

Police brutality is a function of poor education from both policemen and citizens. Many policemen are not properly educated. They can't engage in a decent arguement without resorting to threats. Many can't even read and write especially their rank and file. Many citizens are also not enlightened to know their rights and duties. Since the government has chosen for 60 years to ignore education, the chicken have come home to roost. In some countries, their prisons are virtually empty. Thanks to responsible government they have.
education is key but not the answer... Do educated people don't commit crime... It's the state of mind I don tire for people blaming education and illiteracy as problems

If they don't want to do their jobs relieve them of their duty and employ graduates and pay better salaries with proper training and orientation let's see if things won't get back to normal.

Besides, we are giving the gvt sometime to meet our protest demands after some weeks boys and girls would be back on the street.

I choose not to be sentimental. You are! You know the situation of things in this environment and that being the reason for the curfew, you should abide strictly if you are not a goat.

This is a taste of what the Masses have endured for ages. Be Good to those you are meant to protect and watch the same people protect you when situation like these arises. The case of that Dpo in Onitsha is a case study.
But if they continue in their ways a fate worse than what we witnessed may befall them as there will always be a day of reckoning for every misdeed. In the end love conquers all.

Somebody told me,the moment they were stopped from collecting bribe, their morale lowered.
That it was only the extorted money that keeps boasting their morale.I don't know How true.

One never knew a day like this will ever come.
Somehow thanks to the hoodlums.

The hunters became hunted.
They now feel the pain of innocent people they kill.
Henceforth they should behave well.

Our police force need reform.

Are you referring to the same OSINT that the Nigerian Army claimed was photoshopped?

Are you saying the same videos making the rounds should be considered credible enough for intelligence gathering in the area of investigating brutality on our policemen and not be used in the case of the Lekki tollgate massacre?

Unless we restructure Nigeria, I'm sorry the improvements we crave for might be some centuries away.

Sad

large gap exist between law enforcement agencies and the people. Their lifestyle differ from ours.only a fellow officer understand what their colleague passes through. most of their friends are fellow officers. A strong bond exist among themselves while a weak bond exist towards non police officers. They trust themselves so highly that they will never turn their colleague for an offense against non officers

It is like they are trained never to trust anyone beside themselves.

Young man on dreadlock is a cultist

Young Man on tatoo is a hard drug peddler

Young Man with expensive phone and laptop is an Internet fraudster

Youth who drives a flashy car is a ritualist

Their manner of profiling criminals makes an average young man a suspect. Whoever is suspected is harrased. The lack of respect for human right has led to the loss of trust from the youth. The experience or withness of violence whenever any youth encounters the men with red cap causes a long term distrust.

The youth do not want a change of name but a change in attitude. The confidence the youth have in the uniform men to has gone so low that it would take a consistent extra ordinary effort from them to win it back. The youth want the police to publicize the policies and procedures the police use. The youth want to know when an officer is free to use force. We want to know how to act so they do not have to legally apply force on us . We want a police force that is constantly trained in ethics and integrity. Detering officers should be punnished for violating this rules. punnished officers should have their names published .The youth want a police force that sees themselves as equal to others. We want a police force that talk to us calmly and politely. Shouts and insult raises anger . During monthly environmental sanitation excercise, police should not only punnish offenders. Rather men on uniform should join and pack the dirt . They should engage in other non enforcement activities with the community. This creates a sence of togetherness and not one of superiority. Gradually, the people would see the officer of the law as partners and not devil to be feared. This will ensure maximum coorpeation.

https://tobechispeaks./2020/10/17/we-want-the-police-we-can-trust/

Every youth should have a copy of the Police Act and read. It is for sale in law bookshops and it is cheap. I have a copy in my car, together in the file that contains my car paper and I am not a lawyer. But whenever I am stopped, and asked to produce the car papers, I also bring out the police act that governs police proceedures.

This usually sends a warning signal to them that I am not the kind of youth they can easily mess with and they always asking me questions like 'you be lawyer?' Legal knowledge is not only for lawyers that's why ignorance is not a tenable excuse in law. Knowledge is power when applied efficiently.

Those who are not responding to distress call or not going back to work, fire them and replace them, people are looking for job here and there. You are alive and you have one you still dey form.

There are different reasons morale could be low apart from the killings , no money can be made on their outings for now, that too can reduce morale

My own is that why is it that the IG of police is always from the north? Is it that the south are not qualify to hold that post. You hardly see a southerner becoming the IG. Am sure the next person will still be a northerner. A lot of things needs to be corrected in this country concising this one side appointment....
Am sure one side appointment is one of the problem facing Nigeria police. When IG of police is selected base on nepotism and not by merit....
I still remember Mr transmission transmission, I wonder how such dullard got that post when you have knowledgeable police men holding Msc in criminology.

Why don’t we wait and see the measures that will be put in place to check the excesses of law enforcement agents in Nigeria? Abuse of power is actually prevalent in so many sectors of Nigeria. Look at electricity providers for instance. Why don’t we all have meters? Why do they still give estimated bills like they are crazy? When the people are unable to meet up or bribe them, they threaten to cut them off. Some of us are fortunate to get the meters, but it took a while. I truly believe that those without meters should not pay any bills. How about the ports authority? Nigeria needs a complete overhaul of all its systems. I don’t agree with mayhem and killings as a means to achieve this though.

Hmmmm.......Our policemen are not happy that Nigerians are not concerned about the killing of our policemen. Were they concerned about their policemen killing Nigerians? .... or extorting them? Their problem is not moral... but Nigerians would no longer allow them to operate above the law without immediate consequences.
Re: With 28 Officers Killed, Police Admits Low Morale, IG Begins Tour Of Commands by onyxo76(m): 9:44am On Oct 30, 2020
the low morale is probably due to the fact that they have not been able to extort their usual customers okada riders etc due to the tension in the land.

That's because the NPF is a criminal organisation. The average Nigerian police officer is a thief. The NPF is a largely useless organisation. Useless as the P in Psychology. They have never responded to emergencies at the appropriate time.
