Something is wrong somewhere.

The current Nigeria was not designed to work
All your 'leaders' know that,
Increasing tax, removing subsidies and all that just to pay salaries in a shrinking economy would only make people poorer, it's bacis economics

PhiliptheArab:
1. I blame the government for not diversifying the economy.

2. Having said that, oil has been below what we need it to have a good enough income since 2014.

We need oil to be at $140 per barrel before we can run a budget without borrowing. Its called our breakeven price, and the reason why we borrow is because oil prices have been below that for years

3. The solution really is simple. Remove oil subsidy. Remove power subsidy. Use the savings to pay salaries .Prices will go up, but we have no choice.

4. Or taxes go up

5. Diversify. Diversify

6.Or pray that oil goes up.

Truthfully speaking, i think we should remove subsides. So that free investment and jobs flow in
Income from there combined with income from savings made will end this crisis

Time we did something we should have done in 1993 . If we had done it then, we should have been better off.

7. And lets fight corruption for real

This is exactly what happened to Venezuela, the price of oil collapsed world wide and their government went broke.

Nigeria is broke and will eventually collapse like Venezuela.

People get ready the avalanche of calamities is about to explode on our head.

Nigeria is finished.

. If the head of these agencies can be interrogated, or their spending for the year in question is probed, I'm sure there must be so many wrong doings with respect to unapproved expenditures.

Salary should be the top most priority of any agency. Why can you exhaust every dime allocated to you without thinking ahead of the hardship and precarious condition it will place the employees.

Quite unfortunate. I will advise that every single head of these agencies be probed, and if found culpable, they should be properly disciplined or made to resign prematurely

Putting the cart before the horse will not work.
Restructuring with no focus on proper citizens' database and statistics will not also work.
Every first world country bases her budgets on (SSN) Social Security Number of individuals citizens in her country.
Every citizen's existence must be documented.

With this, the population of the blind, the lame, deaf and dumb, pregnant women, Men, Women, young, old, employed and unemployed, skilled laboures and unskilled, dead retired. citizens will be known.
Nigerians, wealth creation is in the head of many in nigeria and nigerians in diaspora but we have too many looters in government.

I pray that one day, things will fall in place for our nation when we become United States of Nigeria. Our leaders should go back to British drawing board and follow what was given as blue print for Nigeria or we become united kingdoms of Nigeria.

Let government take all subsidies away and subsidise fresh agricultural produce and food, let see if people will not back into farming.
God will open our minds to know what to do right as a nation

So what should we do

1.Spend money we don't have?

2.Keep taking loans to finance the subsidies and other things, since we can't remove subsides?

3.Restructuing or dividing Nigeria won't help. I doubt any of the regions apart from the oil producing states can raise funds to pay the new civil services. Apart from oil, we have no other export that can earn a substantial amount of money for us, together or apart.

I know you people don't like removing subsides. But the money we throw away on subsides over the years is what is making us take loans to cover up. Now they can't take loans anymore.

Simple economics....remove subsides, allow the petroleum and power sectors be profitable, more investment flows in, and after some harship, things would get better, and there would be savngs galore.

And yes, we should fight corrption, and yes, APC and PDP are not the answer, and yes, our national assembly needs reduction.

Been following your posts lately.

You like your meat flavoured right?

I like smoked steak! Smoking meat is best for long-cooking tough cuts, like a beef brisket or ribs, while enhancing its flavor and tenderizing the meat so it's not chewy. With some finesse and free time, it's easy to penetrate thick steaks with smoky flavor while keeping the insides medium-rare.

This is exactly my position.. the more reason we should encourage tools like IPPS that block corrupt practices.. It will compel to always operate within their my budgetary means.

Overwhelming and costly duplicity of functions!

FG should merge these MDA's quickly.

Too much fund going down the drain.

Most of the staff aren't even contributing meaningfully to the economy.

We know that restructuring will solve these issues. Some of these ministries are redundant, most of them can actually be merged together.
But we rather treat symptoms than the actual sickness.
No wonder most of these agencies have not released job adverts for years. They can't generate enough money to pay their salaries, they wait on the government at the end of the month to share oil money.
The way Nigeria is going is not sustainable. A lot of parasites in the govt. No wonder buhari borrows to pay salaries.. Restructuring is the solution
To be candid, restructuring is only PART of the solution. The average Nigerian in governance is short-sighted, selfish and wicked. Even if this country splinters into 500 parts, I'm willing to wager that the mentality of whoever will be in charge of these places, will not be any different from the corrupt theives that are ruling us now. The black man's problem is a lack of leadership mentality. Solve that, and no matter the structure on ground, we'll make it work.

After 60years of selling oil yet no meaningful development apart from jumbo salary. No light no road no security. Yet someone would wake up and say Nigeria doesn't depend on oil. Its simple cut the cost of governance or you kill people with tax

What of those senators earning 26 million Naira per month?
Aso - rock hospital is poorly or not facilitated, is subsidy the cause of the problem?
Poor health care or no health care, subsidy is the cause of the problem.
Other sane countries give social welfare to their citizens as forms of subsidy to cushion the effects of the economy.
Your points are valid but are very unreasonable.
Some of you will come to nairaland to be ranting with out due diligence.

Nice one. Now they will care for the goose that lays the golden egg. Business as usual is fast losing it. Very soon there will be nothing to share. Restructuring will occur by default.
Re: 428 Federal Ministries, Depts, Agencies Can’t Pay Salaries by eejo(m): 4:35pm On Nov 02, 2020
I knew it will come down to this one day. The evil started from local government workers were salaries were not paid then move to State government workers and now Federal government workers. The problem of Nigeria is not restructuring, the country is not generating enough revenue to take care of her population growth. Majority of Nigerians are greedy who are ready to loot anytime they are in position including the youths.

I won't argue with you. What is the work of a CEO in a company or the President of Nation?

He takes responsibility by holding others responsible. The country respond to his level of efficiency and responsibility

What can you say about Buhari?

So the Country is on auto pilot?

It is people like you that are in his cabinet lying to him and not making him to know the truth on ground. If I should not hold my president responsible maybe I should go and hold my headmaster responsible

They all keep mouthing restructuring,
They know the solution but keep throwing money they don't have on a structure that was designed to favour the few it currently favours,
If you like charge N500 for power and 20% VAT, it would all be shared by states and the story continues
