Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola said on Wednesday that the Ministry need about N6.26 trillion to complete the about 711 federal high road projects across the country.

The Minister who spoke while defending the 2021 budget estimate of the Ministry before the House Committee on Works headed by Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi however said that inadequate funding has slowed down the pace of work on the road projects.

Fashola said it was difficult for the Ministry to accomplish all its objectives due to paucity of funds, but said that rather than expanding the projects being financed through Sukuk, efforts should be channeled toward the completion of the entire green network covering the four major ports, Lagos, Warri, Port Harcourt and Calabar.

Na wa o. I hope this is not fake news and BTW the head of FERMA just told the HoRs that 2k21 FERMA budget was padded by N11billion by the ministries of finance and works. This nation is a joke cos with the level of poverty and hunger in the land yet, the name BILLION and TRILLIONS keep flying in the atmosphere as if it's just kobo kobo ehn I surely weep for the elites and too political class cos a time will come when the air won't be oxygen enough to breath in and they'll be in danger.

As long as contracts are inflated, you will need endless trillions to do simple road jobs. It will get to a stage where the ministry's budget allocations will not be enough to do 2 or 3 roads because of over inflation of contracts. It has been said that it costs more to do a kilometer of road in Nigeria than elsewhere in the world. You would expect him to take actions to reduce the cost of road constructions but he didn't because he runs a paddy paddy ministry.. This man has failed at the power ministry, spectacularly, the same way he failed at Lagos while the press burnished his image.. Roads are bad and he has been there for 6 solid years.
