Two students of the Ignatius Ajuru University of
Education (IAEU) have been suspended for one academic session over their 'inciting" posts about the institution on social media.

The students are Sunday Idongesit Okpokpo of
the Department of Political Science and Chibuzor
Remmy of the Department of Educational
Management.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof.
Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele who confirmed the suspension in a statement on Wednesday,
November 4, said Okpokpo created panic and
confusion when he took to Facebook to state
that the school's final year examination might
be cancelled.

"Mr. Sunday Idongesit Okpokpo of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social
Sciences, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, with Matriculation Number UE/2019/ B.Ed4/4505 has been suspended for one academic session 2019/2020) with immediate effect," the statement says .

"Mr. Sunday Idongesit Okpokpo had over the
weekend created panic and confusion when he
posted on the social media cancelling the final
year examinations scheduled to commence on
Monday November 2, 2020 as well as the Matriculation Ceremony scheduled to hold on
Saturday November 7, 2020. Only the Senate of
the University has such powers.

He is to resume studies in 2020/2021 academic
session at 100 level."

The statement said Remmy was found guilty of
inciting students to protest against the
University Authority for having only one bank on
campus. The student said the call for protest
was a 'joke'.

"Mr. Chibuzor Remmy of the Department of
Educational Management, Faculty of Education,
Ignatius Ajuru University of Education with
Matriculation Number UE/2018/EDUMAT/
B.Ed4/0205 has been suspended for one academic session (2019/2020) with immediate effect," "Mr. Chibuzor Remmy was found guilty of
inciting students with his social media post. He
had called out students on that post to protest
on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 against the
University Authority for having only one bank on
campus. He is to resume school in the 2020/2021 academic session. He is not to be seen on any of the three campuses unless on invitation."

This very wrong, the people that are celebrating this are very ignorant of what this can lead to. This happened as a result of poor communication on the university side, if the student are not sure if exam is going to take place then make it clear!! It is that simple aha ha. Nigerians are autocratic in nature

I just checked the VC out on Facebook. Young people from all over were bullying him and trolling on all his posts, even correcting his too many typographical errors, and outrightly threatening his twin daughters he used as his profile picture.

He just lifted the ban: https://www./494183544057260/permalink/1994679127341020/ .

Score one for social media and freedom of speech.

A student is suspended for having an opinion on a topic bothering him and his mates? For reasons best known to him, he "doesn't think" the exams will commence. Is this why he gets a 1year suspension?
Not that he expressly announced that the exams have been cancelled. That is when there may have been panic.

Has 'protest' become a crime? Or is calling for a protest on campus a crime??

SUG is dead in Nigerian schools.

Anyway, the student already chickened out.

Suspension without a fair hearing?

That overzealous handle harassing students should hide in shame.

I think the school is ridiculing itself undecided

private universities in Nigeria are turning to concentration camps, parents pay huge fees to imprison their children.

Just imagine, why should a school have only one bank, you can imagine how poor customer service is in students bank, govt shud address this.

Airing of opinion is not a crime

Making inciting and unverified statements that will trigger anarchy and confusion is a crime.school is for serious minded students who know what they're doing and not confusionists and anarchists.he should be made a scapegoat

When he causes confusion that results in the destruction of school properties will he pay? Will the responsibility not fall on the school to start fixing everything?

They pay fees, its not free the school has an obligation to protect students interest, parents of today are dumb and daft, they can't even fight for their children's rights, all they do is gather money and dash to conmen who open under varsities and impart trash to their children, at the end of the day the children still spend years after graduation jobless and eating their parents food.

Invictus obi was tracked and caught not through Facebook but via his comments on nairaland

Don't forget the people that created and managing Facebook and other ICT stuffs are human beings and not spirits so don't think you're that elusive

Listen twice and speak once

For the records I don't know the VC or have any buisness with the school but the way youths this generation are completely reckless in speech and character makes them very vulnerable to destruction.

You are right bro...but you know how power intoxicates all these people. For the fact that he didn't even use the work they might want to nail him for, i don't want to believe they would be so daft to tell us that they are suspending him based on intention or assumption. I wish i have a way to contact the guy.
