xcellentgraphic:What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander The same poor people that demand reduction in the prices of goods will also demand reduction in the prices of services. ALSO, people who manufacture the goods rely on people who provide services. Government controlling prices might make it difficult for them to make enough profit and attract invesstment to earn enough money which can be used to pay services providers . Like you. Be careful what you wish for. |

Amotolongbo:Nigerians pay the highest amount than anywhere else in the world, for a bag of cement. The average cost of cement worldwide, is about $3 for 50kg bag. Even with inflated exchange, that is less than ₦1500 per bag. Countries that don't manufacturer cement don't buy it above this price. Nigeria produces it. But Dangote ensured that importation is banned, and he has a near monopoly on cement manufacture and sale. Next, he is targeting tomato paste. Then he will move on to the ban of noodles, pasta, and other commodities. FG is his partner in strangulating the country |

For those of you blaming dangote, is he the only company producing cement in Nigeria? Why can't others reduce their price also? |

Harddiskng:Lol please what was the exchange rate when we were importing compare to now, let us be real with ourself any country that keep importing is spelling doom for itself. You think the Chinese are stupid giving you loans yet they supply the manpower as well as the coaches, but we pay back in cold cash. Continue singing Dangote this,Dangote that when you should be singing to President Buhari and Prof Osinbanjo ears to look inward and focus on import substitution... Sadly we go one step forward nine step backward... Just imagine how much billion dollars loan is going on those train coaches that can be fabricated in Anambra, but as usual we like quick fix. Please put the blame at the door step of policy makers, money that should be saved and use for internal human capital development is always quickly wasted. The Dangote Refinery should averagely have a break even period of seven to eight years was suppose to reduce foreign exchange pressures but with all this accumulated loan from the Chinese by the Nigeria government what do you think will happen. Henry J Kaiser was a photographer when he started out but was commissioned to build Ships during the World War by the U.S government,we also see how the same U. S government spent on Howard Hughes but the only time the are comfortable to give Alhaji contract is when they want to collect tax . |

juvewalex:Most times extra cost is due to expenses in transportation. Roads are bad. Vehicle summersult up and down along the way. Such don't happen in foreign nations, that FIRST repair the roads, then use NEW road worthy trailers to carry the load. Or better still, use rail lines to carry it and leave the roads for lighter cars. |

VaselineCrew:Your argeument is is not totally straightforward. In the first place, Cement production used to be in the exclusive list before liberalisation of the economy. Secondly, the make up of the producers and the way they seem to set prices not related to market realities , suggest they're starting to act like some monopolistic cartel. Thirdly, it's the duty of the government to protect consumers from monopolies and over pricing. That's why we have the consumer protection agency. Dangote and co get tax waivers and licences to open quarries and mine minerals to subsidize their production abilities. These were done to help them manufacture cheaply. That iddea of cheaper cement, has now been defeated. Finally, Government imposed bans on importation of cement to help local producers compete. If those local operators start to abuse the process by selling at prices higher than imported ones, government should step in and help the economy by applying appropriate sanctions. Regulating anti business practices by manufacturers is part of the responsibilities of the government. That's still capitalism at play... |

Equal2DeTask:It is head that is paining you. After my post in the morning and selling for ₦3100, I was told that my next order is at ₦3200. So I can't even sell next stock for ₦3200. So you ask people in the business to tell you the details before accusing others of greed. At ₦3100 this morning, I'm the one selling at least price. |

All these are abit cheaper than Nigeria, but reality is we are paying for an inefficient government and infrsateucturally deficient economy. No electricity, no rail to make it easier to transport, area boys demanding money per truck in their community, corruption everywhere in the value chain. |

Based on research 50kg bag is about 6.5 euro which is over N3k. So all those saying cement is N800 where they are should please provide evidence.
