Hello guys, so I was wondering if there is any way I can build a full functional website with front and backend programming languages, and host it on my laptop without launching it online.

Like, I mean the website will just be functional only on my laptop.

If I register a user, it will store in my laptop and I will be entirely in control of the website without going online.

You can setup such an outfit..

You need XAMPP for your server. In fact, that is the first step for all online website before they eventually update their online version.

That way, you make sure all your links work and there are no loose ends.

Get XAMPP or WAMP. They are software that comes with Apache, PHP and MYSQL packaged altogether. It’s very easy to setup. You can watch some YouTube video incase you don’t know how to set it up and get it running.

Moreso use a modern editor. I recommend VSCode Editor

99.99999% of applications are actually built offline;

I dare say 100%

I kind of prefer Bitnami WAMP and LAMP stacks

Linux : lampp , window : xampp

Chrome and bracket editior

Chrome will help you in writing js unlike firefox

Bracket has live view feature that works with chrome that means no refreshing just keep writing preview will be loading

Sublime text is good but for now bracket simplify the work better

That's close to what a Server basically is.

With a Basic software such as XAMPP or WAMPP server, it's possible and is what some web designers use.

By the way, abeg next time just go straight to point, no need ordering People IN Like they're your Village People.

Install xampp or wamp... First software application you need on your system before you install your notepad or web design tool..

Don't try it
Don't die Young.
Don't let I die.
I mean your personal laptop bro.exposing your personal laptop to the internet via xxamp lamp or whatever amperes your are using is a dangerous as uploading all your files on nairaland for public viewership.If you get hacked.It may not only lead to data loss ,data lekage.Yoy may damage your hardisk by a malware that writes bad bytes to storage.
In other words I will advise you to get a seprate dedicated computer server running a server OS.like Windows server Ubuntu server separate PSU.more cost.
Or you buy a London used android phone download and buy ultiserver any a0p they. Plenty .Buy confirm 3g 6months plan plus power bank setup and gbam as they say you are there

My guy you're blowing things out of proportion. He just need to do simple website development and test things for himself. Local developers use it alot before full deployment. I don't think op plan on hosting his website from his laptop and if he wants to, that is quite funny to start with.

OP actually wants to turn his laptop into a "data center"
Sha make sure you have electricity and fast internet 24/7
Else . . you can imagine trying to login to Nairaland
and S3un tells you "NEPA DON TAKE LIGHT". When "they bring light" you can login.

Waste of time and resources.
Use github pages or heruku to test run your projects.

Goodluck.

Abeg I need your help alongside other pHp gurus here. I recently installed the latest php version, but each time I try running a db connection I do encounter Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class 'mysqli' not found in C:\xampp\hotdocs. I use vs code and I have followed all the suggestions I came across online(stackoverflow inclusive) all to no avail. Abeg can you tell me how to go about fixing this problem.

Where did you get the PHP installation from? It seems MySQLi driver plugin didn’t come with it.
You need to run php info function to see the supported extension.

If MySQLi/MySQL it means the driver wasn’t Pre packaged with your PHP installation. I advise you to install everything through XAMPP

Did you setup a database with the credentials you are inputting?

...and also, the logic should be...

If (! $conn) {
die("Could not connect to Database" );
}

you need to check the supported extension of your PHP.

type phpinfo(); in a PHP file.

Start your command line server
php -S localhost:8000

then open the url and search for MySQL with ctrl+f

Maybe you missed a semicolon or curly bracket.

This is what I just set up on my own machine.

I can MySQLi directive meaning it is supported. Anyway you know use PDO for now. else something could be wrong with MySQLi drivers. More so is your MySQL server on?
