The scene of the event was Capernaum, in a synagogue.

The crowd had tried to Jesus king a day earlier. Thousands are now beginning to follow him around in anticipation of one miracle or the other.



Jesus miraculously fed a crowd of thousand with just two fishes and five bread in Galilee, realizing that the already impressed crowd are about to seize and make him king, he withdrew into the mountain alone.

The night came calling, his 12 apostles who may have been tired of waiting board a boat to cross the sea, their destination is Capernaum.



The Bible describe the situation of the sea that evening as rough: a strong wind was blowing.

The 12 apostles were about to witness another miracle!

Jesus followers must have been shocked and impressed to see their master walking across the rough and stormy sea, he even helped their boat to land.



With Jesus and his 12 apostles gone, the crowd crossed to Capernaum in search of them.

On realizing they came looking for him not to hear his message but to see more food produce miraculously, Jesus made a statement that made a lot of people to stop following.



"I am the bread of life. 49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness and yet they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that anyone may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever; and for a fact, the bread that I will give is my flesh in behalf of the life of the world.

52 Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying: “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them: Most truly I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.

56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I in union with him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. It is not as when your forefathers ate and yet died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever. 59 He said these things as he was teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum. 60 When they heard this, many of his disciples said: This speech is shocking; who can listen to it?” - John 6:48-60, NWT Bible version



Imagine the scene in your head. Try to picture the look on the crowd faces. They may have stopped listening, a lot of murmuring and anger. Some of them may have gotten up to speak as they all can't speak once.

They called Jesus speech shocking and asked if there is anyone who can listen to it?

Their next reaction?



The Bible said they stopped following Jesus probably disappointed in his statement, but should they have waited for an explanation?

Jesus have just lost a lot of followers but the story did not end there. His twelve apostles are about to teach us an important lesson in loyalty and trust.

So Jesus said to the Twelve: You do not want to go also, do you? - John 6:67.

Jesus may have seen the reaction of his 12 apostles before asking the question in verses 67.

Peter was the one who came with an answer. You may have come to realize that he is the most outspoken apostles from your regular Bible reading.


68 "Simon Peter answered him: Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life. 69 We have believed and have come to know that you are the Holy One of God." - John 6:68,69

The 12 apostles showed true faith in Jesus and were loyal to him, even when they may have also been surprised by his statement.

They have absolute faith in Jesus promise of everlasting life.

Do people ever learn what The Lord teaches? Do they not do exactly what The Lord Hath Said "Do Not Do"?
Do they not, even today, repeat the destruction of the wicked unforgiving servant, the foolish servant who hid his talent, the unruly servant who beat other servants, going after wine, beer, whoring and oloshoing, seeking to amass wealth instead of Eternal Life, falling into one and all of the events recorded in the Bible?

Do they learn? No, they do not! They Go On Doing The Very Same Things Recorded!
