Well, Canada is a bilingual country. A lot of jobs require bilingual competencies or outright say "Knowledge of French is an advantage".

For people looking for additional points, a whopping 74 points are up for grabs. Some PNPs like OINP, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia actively seek French speaking candidates.

Alliance Francais, IEF, online vendors, Self study are some options. Begin your French journey today.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Hello seniors on our thread.
I am on my french journey and I need some motivation. I downloaded most of the french textbooks gotten here and also some videos on YouTube and everywhere trust me... I am a bit overwhelmed as after my tutorial classes each day I am clueless as how to move forward with my own personal learning..maybe I have too many things to read. The few I have picked on my A2 level seem to be too hard to understand. And am like is this for my same A2 level..huh?? I know it gets better but right now it just seems am stuck.. sigh

Looking back, I'd recommend scanning through the questions while the example audio is being read out...at the beginning, observe the images closely and pre-empt what the possible dialogue might be and then listen with an open mind. I'd recommend listening exclusively to the audio before writing the answers. Always take advantage of the example dialogs to read ahead.

You're right about perhaps leveraging AF for Writing. They seem to have it covered. One thing though which will help is: for part 1, frequently read fait divers on Google. For example, after my exam, I googled fait divers fourgon pluie and voila I saw my exam question staring back at me! So frequently Google fait divers and add high frequency key words like perdu, vole, etrange, disparu and you'll see popular type 1 questions. Use a lot of the plus que perfect tense, I heard they're scored higher. For type 2, master the response type, I mean know when a letter is expected or when an essay is expected and master the fixed response styles.

Cheers to your eventual success!

Hi everyone, newbie here but I will also be taking TEF probably in the middle of the year. I've used many of the resources in this thread. Also wanted to share the podcasts by Radio Lingua (Coffee Break French). It's a useful supplement to the other things in this thread, and is quite helpful for pronounciation and conversation skills en francais.

Hi,

Lemme try to give back to this thread, which really helped. My results (finally!) from Abuja, 10 Dec:
Comp. Ecrite C1 - 240/300 (CLB cool; Comp. Orale B2 - 260/360 (CLB 7); Exp. Ecrite C1 - 390/450 (CLB 9); Exp. Orale B2 - 329/450 (CLB 7)

I started learning French (at AF Lagos) years ago, so I'm not best placed to answer the popular question: how long it'd take to go from novice to B2/CLB7. For that I strongly recommend testimonies from @njbybrthnly and @BootyliciousHon. Their advice is valid for French debutants as for people, like me, who fall in and out. My experience:

EE
Pleasantly shocked at my Writing scores: I didn't feel confident before and after the exam. For Task 1, completing a "fait divers", we wrote about a guy who woke up to see bank notes strewn in his garden, and I did my best to produce the closest I could to a newspaper report. So...Who? When? Where? What? How? Etc? But I also used reported speech, as a journalist would quote an interviewee.
For eg: ""I was shocked; I almost had a heart attack!!", said Mr. Butiku to a reporter from…"
Then to add colour, like..."Mr. Butiku took photos of his garden before calling the police, because he knows they are crooks". And throw in a catchy ending.

For Task 2, after the intro, identify two or three opposing points and then use connectors (par contre, en revanche) to provide counter arguments.
Lots of practice helped me. As did preparing a quick plan is essential. I saw somewhere that you shouldn't write your entire essay on rough paper first; I totally agree! A huge part of the challenge is managing time.

CO
I’m relieved as I made the big mistake of fretting over 1 question and it almost messed me up. You really should be reading ahead not dwelling one already gone. I too benefited from French news, and as TEF always repeats the format, I spent time listening to interview sessions, with a presenter discussing a topic with 1 or more guests.

CE
I was pleased with the Reading test, so maybe I'm a little disappointed with CLB8. Silly mistakes perhaps?
But by all means, start with the first 10 and last 10 questions, a brilliant tip I got here!
Some of the questions, I had to just do a process of elimination and to pace myself; time went by so fast!

EO
The formal role play was to call a clown agency about services for a children party. I got little or no prep time! I struggled with questions: we didn't do many clown parties in my time...alas!
Second task was to convince a friend to spend a weekend sleeping in a "yourte", literally the first time I saw the word! I had to look at the photos to realise it's a tent. The idea here is to find a way to keep trying to convince the examiner, "your friend". You have to be creative. And you must have a response for all his questions. If he asks about costs, for eg, you must give a figure, ideally a ridiculously cheap figure. My examiner complained about sleeping in the open with mosquitoes...I said don’t worry there would be so much fun we won’t sleep. He said what if he breaks a leg, I said emergency services respond quickly. I even referred to a mutual friend, "Paul", who had had fun during the camping some weekends ago. Going on for 10mins wasn't easy and I had to say "je comprends tes reticences" a few times. But, it was ok in the end.

En plus…
I was initially disappointed with the prep class, where they got us essentially working through past questions. I had hoped for more tips and tricks. But no knowledge is lost, no practice is wasted, and I do believe my Writing improved those 5 weeks. It’s always useful to share ideas with other candidates. So, in the end, value for the N15k.

Then, I can't get over the fact that we have to wait 6-8 weeks to get the results; the manual said 2-4. Its ridiculous. I hope you manage your anxiety better than I did!

Donc viola, happy to answer any questions. Best wishes to those sitting this weekend!

Please can someone confirm @successintef for good French classes.

Successintef:
To have more than B2+/clb 7 in speaking, it is important to speak French as much as possible due to the fact that we are not in a francophone country.

We have got you covered, our tutor has written and passed TEF.

Our fees are also very affordable.

You can contact us on successintef@gmail.com and 09019483442

Hello everyone,

Please which online paid resource will you recommend for a complete beginner to start learning French?

I have heard of a number of options like Frenchpod, Rocket, FrenchwithAlexa etc.

If I’m to pay for just one online resource that is well structured from start to finish, which one will you recommend?

Thanks

Me too actually. She is a bad ass teacher. As in e go enter your head sha ni. Slow and steady and reemphasise without being annoying.
All the grammaire my AF teacher taught in A 1 class that he will just be rushing to cover the textbook, na from Alexa videos i comprehended it.

If you now farabale watch the support videos again for emphasis, do the exercises, o ma bad gan.

But you still need tutor sha later on. Cos of speaking and writing and asking of questions.

To all beginners who feel like they are not making progress, courage !

Keep at it.....attend your classes (online or physical)....more importantly put in the hour or two daily to reinforce what you've learnt.

Immerse yourself in french media....TV (dstv 437), radio and newspapers (online).....even when it seems you don't understand anything......keep at it.
