Pls stop typing nonsense.

Google is the number 1 search engine and has control over traffic.

Google creates algorithms to destroy competitors by reducing traffic.

No small company can compete with Google and their subsidiaries, you will never rank on first page if the company only relies on seo

Go and read up on, how traffic works instead of going all out ballistic. No company can regulate internet traffic, no even algos created by the company can. You can rank on first page if you need to, Duck Duck Go is an excellent example, they are also a search engine. When you search for most secure search engine, Duck Duck Go pops out as the number result, so why is not Google that pops up itself? Why is it not also regulated by Google?

Pls did you read the content of the lawsuit before typing.

I hate ignorance

I don't need to read, I followed the hearing in Congress where Sundar Pichai talked about the lawsuit, it had to do with infringement on user data and nothing else. The only company that was probed for strangulation by Congress was Facebook and maybe Amazon (not really sure of Amazon).

There is everything wrong with their business model.

Google has unfair advantage, google dorminate the search engine market because of many monopolistic things they do.

Google is american, how will an American company be dominating everything in The world.

How will home startup grow if 90% of the traffic goes to google, no varieties for consumers

I'm more interested in the business model which you said is wrong. If you won't mind I'll like you to throw more light on it. We learn everyday.

I know Google has competitors and they know that too. The aim of every business is to kill all competition as they improve their services.. You can't expect to search videos on Google and get links to other websites asides from YouTube on the first page. This alone will make content creators choose YouTube over other platforms..

Is there any thing illegal about their domination.

Please explain let's learn

You are ignorant.

Google built and control Google search engine, Google has almost 70% market share, most users use google.

Google every year release algorithms to change search...the last update to search was in may, those who understand SEO knows. Many top ranking sites fell off the first page but no Google business fell off

Google owns Google search engine, all Google subsidiaries are number 1 on search engine because Google has the power to do that.

If you had read the antitrust lawsuit, then you will understand why Duck duck go is not popular

Google destroys competitors

The alighted is a method in which google force consumers to use only their products, it is bad for competitors , Google is acting like a monopoly.

That is why there is anti monopoly law, to cut the influences of big businesses and allow innovation from small businesses.

Google makes money by advertisement and also Google has a market share of 70% in the search engine, this makes google the chief of search engine, with that power, they can decide to promote only their businesses and get all traffic while your business will not get any traffic, if you are a business man, this is unfair practice.

Google monopoly alone destroys innovators from entering the market.

How i wish Nigeria can implement this type of law, it will be nice.

Google especially has an unfair advantage especially in advertising of their subsidiaries, no other companies can compete with them on search engine.

For example, Google has a subsidiary called YouTube, if a small competitor wants to do similar video sharing as YouTube, that startup wont get traffic at all because once a user type in any keyword relating to video, the search results shows all videos from YouTube on the first page. That is bad and unfair..Google with their search engine kills small businesses.

With Google search engine, Google acts like a very big global monopoly that wont allow small competitor to survive because they want advertising money for only themselves

And you think that Google just had to put Youtube there and not because of SEO, the youtube videos were shown on first search?

There is a antitrust lawsuit against Google by The United states department of justice.

Google it online and read, it explains how google unfair advantage kills innovation.

Google don't do SEO

Google own Google search engine, why will they do SEO.

All Google businesses are number 1 on search engine.

If Google enter the property search business, they will kill many property sites

Damn!! This is funny.

America started the Internet revolution.

Google has an indirect monopoly over search engine business, same monopoly that Yahoo, an American company enjoyed. See guy, don't make this an American stuff. Google is good with their craft, just as much as every other Tech giant like Microsoft, Amazon etc.

It's business.

Google or Facebook is not number 1 in china and Russia because the government regulated their influences.

Google is not the best search engine in the world, there are better ones but because Google has the money, they kill them.

It is not good for innovation

Other countries are making laws to harness social media for economic benefits of their citizens. In Nigeria, social media regulation is to control free speech.
The guilty are always afraid.

I can assure you that there is no country in the world that would sit back and allow its national security to be threatened by an overwhelming flood of inciting and often divisive Fake News - including UK & America; in fact president Trump just acted against twitter & FoxNews for same reasons via Executive Order.

Quite on the contrary; there is even a growing trend to regulate social media in many countries - I just returned from Egypt, where you can't even do voice and video calls by Whatsapp, without using VPN to bypass their security blocking system.

Be thankful with the relative freedom you enjoy here in Nigeria; you will not appreciate this until you travel to some other countries in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia & Latin America.

BTW, there is no such thing as absolute freedom of speech, under which you can say all and everything under the sun without repercussions; everything has a limit e.g. it is against the law in Germany to deny the existence of the holocaust; recently also the European Court of Haman Rights (in 2018) reached a landmark judgement that it is indeed a crime to blaspheme the Prophets.

Why not?

Last time I checked, only YouTube has a premium account. Others don't.

Reason is simple, they generate more revenue from ads than they would from premium accounts.

I understand you perfectly bro.. There are tweaks being done and I know about the existence of anti monopoly law, but the thing is will you say that those tweaks are done outside the confinement of the law.

It's only the society that encourages competition to prevent inflation that comes with monopoly and the likes but no business will want to allow any competition survive. Whatever they have to do legally will be done as long as the resources are available.

Those videos that pop up first are contents with higher engagements and were probably optimized too. Even when optimized, I hardly see any content come up without very high engagement. Content creators choose YouTube over others because there are more benefits.

But My question is... Does their business model go against any of those anti monopoly laws?

Because in business there is no such thing as 'its not fair to competitors'

Yes.

The United states government opened an antitrust lawsuit against Google because of its monopolistic strategy.

You're intelligent. I read the article and I think the headline is misleading. From what I read in that article, the UK government pulled up a really great idea. Is this not why we have government to think about the growth of her citizens. Unlike the Nigerian government that want to stifle her citizens with that evil social media bill. Nigerian government should learn for God sake!

Before the advent of all this companies, advertising through the conventional methods, attracted taxes to their coffers.........

But now, almost 90% of advertising budgets are done with all this online giants. This online giants have very clever accountants and lawyers, they are paying very minimum taxes, siphoning the rest offshore........

The government is losing control, hence trying to fight back...........

When you pay little or no taxes you are sabotaging the system and it is a form of leeching in the system, it has to stop.
It also discouraged start up there by reducing the tax net.

When you stop leaching, preys you get your tax but if you don't you won't get tax.
You can get tax which will be little when you don't stop the leaches.
My point is the leaches in the system preventing you from getting tax.
It is two different thing.

I swear to God, you need to read well before posting ignorance.

This is the meaning of section 230, it means the law protects websites from lawsuits if a user posts something illegal.

I hope you know on social media, you can not post hate speech, that shows it is regulated.
