We have received directive from the commission (NCC) to suspend sales and activation of new SIM cards on the Network with Immediate effect.
 
Consequently, we are hereby directed to suspend the Sales, Registrations and Activation of New SIM Cards across all our touchpoints, including but not limited to our MTN Service Centers, Connect Retail/Trade Outlets.
 
Our SIM Registration Application (SeamFix/Biosmart) will be unavailable from tonight to enforce this directive from the commission; As a result, the following services will not be available:-
New Registrations
Re-Registrations 
Additional Registrations

It has been long overdue. The menace of sim reg has gotten out of hand.

Network providers recycle sim cards after few months.
They force people to register sims by enticing customers with bonuses on new SIMs leaving out old customers and giving marketers difficult targets, like they must register 5000 SIMs within 1 month, who TF does that?

There should be strict rules before you can register a SIM.
How can one person have 10 MTN SIMs at home? How can agencies track fraudsters?

I know it's a source of income for some ppl but having being in a sim reg. Shop I can categorically say that those selling point are after sales money they make from such transaction.

I was in this particular shop one guy came in, I need a new SIM, the guy promptly refused to use his details to register this sim that they should run it for him as they normally do it with any detail they feel like, the sales rep In the shop who happens to be a lady said she can't do later called a guy who did the registration even snapped himself join in the registration. My point is sim sales and registration should be left in the hands of network provider through branch outlet

Oh well. Will the networks comply 100%?
