This shows you still do not understand the "electoral collage" system. the electors are divided among states based on the number of seat the state has in the legislature. therefore, if we implement it here in Nigeria, it means States like Kano with 3 senators and 34 reps will end up with 36 electors while others like Bayelsa with 3 senators and 5 reps will on end up with 8 elector. capish!

If na by Electoral votes na North go still get am pass. Kano has 44 Local government Lagos Local government is just 20 officially. the 37 are LCDA's. Even if na by House of rep just like the US. The north still have it more than the south. If we try electoral college lasan just win Kano, Kaduna, Katsina and Sokoto plus maybe Lagos and Oyo then you're good to go.

LCDA has helped development in Lagos more than anything. Alimosho is the largest local government in Nigeria without LCDA it will be hard for development to reach nook and crannies like Egbe-Idimu LCDA, ikotun igando and agbado oke odo and the likes. The inside of Alimosho. Virtually every LCDA in Lagos has a minimum of one Primary health care center for example.
Your sentimental judgement failed to realize that more LG means more Federal allocation and development. Lagos collects money for 20local Government and shares it into 57 parts for better development. The purpose of Local Government is to get governance to the grass roots having an over big local government like Alimosho makes the aim defeated.

That is what is happening with Lagos, Rivers, Kano, Kaduna and Katsina presenting about 50% of the total vote cast in Nigeria by some weird design- This has ensured that states like Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Osun, Cross River, Gombe, Zamfara and Plateau etc don’t matter much to politicians in Presidential elections because everyone is so focused on the big 5 with the KKK states evoking so much fear on every potential candidate

I have to disagree with Secretary Clinton on this one.

The USA is a Union of relatively independent states, who make their own laws about how their electors are chosen. The number of electors are proportional to the population, with the addition of two, irrespective of the population. It's the same way state interests are represented in Congress (and In Nigeria BTW): proportional to population (House), and 2 for Statehood (Senate). This way the smaller states are not overwhelmingly dominated by the larger states. This is a good thing.

All states are free to decide how they divvy up their electoral votes: Nebraska and Maine split their votes in the same congressional method I outlined above, while the remaining 48 use the "winner take all" approach that people like to complain about.

Most states don't want to split their votes unless other states are willing to, because it would influence the strength of their vote. Nevertheless, it is up to the people of each state to decide how they want their votes to count in the election, and so far 48 states have continued to choose the "winner takes all".

A popular vote for president of the US would be counter to the many compromises that balance the tyranny of the majority with the interests of the minority. The logical conclusion (for me) to abolish the Electoral college would be also to abolish the Senate, because afterall, confirmation of Justices, senior administration officials, treaties and such are done in the Senate - which is not representative of each state's population.

The Great Compromise ensures that power is distributed geographically all over the Union, not just in pockets of high population that - ironically - depend on the food and resources produced in the sparsely populated regions. It also ensures that each state in the union has a more balanced say in the affairs of the country - two things that are crucial in the continued cohesion of the Union.
