It's these same religious people (which constitute the majority of Nigerians) that voted the failed governments at all levels to power.

Many Nigerians choose their candidates at polls based on religious and ethnic sentiments.

And the average Nigerian politician has mastered the art of controlling people using religion (which is what religion is actually meant for) to win elections.

The religious leaders also play their part in helping their favorite politicians (cronies) win elections.

What one can do is to sensitize people not to vote candidates based on religious and tribal sentiments, and ensure politicians don't divide us along these lines.

However, that's a difficult task considering how the average Nigerian treats religion as a no-go area (so sensitive), as something sacred that's beyond criticism.

So long people allow politicians to have their way, religion and tribalism will always influence the outcomes of elections in Nigeria.

You can’t leave government whose responsibility it is to provide physical and social security and start dragging churches for not building refineries.
