North Korea Executes Fishing Captain For Listening To Foreign Radio While At Sea by ibson99(m): 6:02pm On Dec 18, 2020
Kim Jong Un’s authoritarian regime in North Korea has publicly executed the owner of a fishing fleet in front of 100 boat captains and fisheries executives for secretly listening to broadcasts by Radio Free Asia and other forbidden media outlets while at sea.

The US government-funded Radio Free Asia claims the fisherman was put to death after admitting he had listened to its broadcasts for more than 15 years.

Sources told RFA the mariner, known as Choi, was executed by a firing squad after he was turned in by a resentful crewman at his base in the northeastern port city of Chongjin.

An official in North Hamgyong province claimed that Choi had started listening to foreign broadcasts when he was a radio operator in the military.

After leaving the military, he continued the habit – leaving him exposed to charges of ‘subversion against the party’, it is claimed.

A subsequent crackdown at the fishing base also led to party officials and security officers being dismissed, it is reported.

The base in question was reputedly affiliated with the so-called Bureau 39, a shadowy wing of the party which obtains foreign currency for North Korean leaders.

North Korea goes to extraordinary lengths to stop its population from accessing outside information, with strict punishment for violators, but the open sea allows fishermen and merchant mariners the chance to hear forbidden broadcasts.

The captain had been catching fish for the government of Kim Jong Un, which has ordered North Korean fishermen to increase catches amid food shortages and to raise cash in the face of international sanctions aimed at curbing resources for nuclear weapons.

The captain appeared to be ‘under the illusion that because he was part of Bureau 39’s fishing base, he would be immune to criminal charges’, a source said.

However, he was said to have become unpopular with his crew members, eventually leading to his downfall.

A second source said: ‘One of the fishermen sought vengeance for Choi’s arrogant and disrespectful behavior so he reported him to the security department.’

Foreign radio stations can be received in much of North Korea, it is believed, but Kim Jong-un’s regime keeps a tight grip on what the public is allowed to know.

The second source claimed it is ‘common’ for fishermen to listen to foreign broadcasts such as RFA when they go out to sea.

‘Therefore, it seems that the authorities made an example out of Choi to imprint on the residents that listening to outside radio stations means death,’ the source claimed.

Radio Free Asia, which is funded by Washington and has an office in Seoul, broadcasts six hours of programming a day to North Korea.

Buhari and his fulani terrorist organization are worst than North Korea. North Korea only kill offenders but Buhari men will enter village and kill people any how without provocation. Buahri will send soldiers to kill innocent youths because they are not his tribes and religion men. But north Korea only kill individuals.

So Nigeria under Buhari is times ten worst than North Korea. Buhari and Tinubu will kill people and lie about it but north Korea don't lie about their action .

North Korea.

Just to show you how bad it is, it is

1.A criminal offense to listen to foreign broadcast. If you buy a radio or television there, you must submit it to a government office to be pretuned to the approved stations.

2.A criminal offence to bad mouth the leaders, and a criminal offence not to report it.

3.You have no freedom of movement. To travel from one place to another in the country you have to have official permission, even to visit your mother in the village. Because if you get caught without the right papers....

4.The sins of the parents can affect their descendants. NK practices something called songbun. How it works...if your papa offends the leaderships, you can be denied higher education, can be posted to a village to do menial jobs...and worst case scenairo in the good old days...jailed in a prision camp for life.

5.There is nothing like freedom of religion. Just even practicing religon can get you jailed for life.

6.In North Korea, there is no internet, only an intranet that has approved government websites. All other websites are blocked.

7.You must wear a badge of the leaders on your shirt or top at all times, and your house wall must have a picture of the Kims on the wall. Father and son (soon the grandson)

8.Maybe the only thing they have that is better than Nigeria is something of absolute security...but that is because they have a good secret police and a good informer system. Step out of line, the boys come for you.

9.All this defection ...in Nigeria if you cross the border illegally to get to Europe...at best, you get back home with some releif materials. In NK, crossing the border illegally=jail. Defecting to another country=jail for you, disgrace for your family, maybe jail/

A good book on NK is The Real North Korea: Life and Politics in the Failed Stalinist Utopia by the Russian writer Andrei Lankov

If it is death, NK has the edge.

Now Nigeria is pretty much insecure...that is where NK is better so to speak. But the reason why NK is better is because they essentially have an effective secret police and spies everywhere. And your behavior, words, actions, even what to believe in is controlled by the government.

Plus people die in NK. Between 1995-97, about 3 million NK citizens died. Famine. Absolute famine. And as for the executions that happen..these are the ones we hear of. There are many more happening we don't hear of.

SOURCES grin grin grin. This is shameful journalism. The only purpose the story serves is western propaganda that Kim is a monster that kills people for the silliest of offenses.

Actually it is very and most likely true.

North Korea is one of the few communist countries that once upon a time extended from East Germany to China, and included Eastern Europe and much of South East Asia.

And all these communist countries had one thing in common...they jammed radio and television signals from the West, because if their people saw how good life was in non-communist countries, they would rebel.

NK is par the course.

The same news that said he killed his uncle with machine gun only to see his uncle few months later at the birthday of Kim's grandfather.
MSM always reports bad or cook a bad news on Russia, China and North Korea but wouldn't report the massive protects going on in France, Chile and Columbia because they are Western puppets

I will only believe, if it is reported by CCTV or RT

Maybe, but the truth is, NK is a very totalitarian country.

Mind you, South Korea too used to be as bad as NK, but they got better because their citizens demanded their rights, and also because their longest serving dictator knew when to leave economic matters for the experts.

By the way,the uncle was killed. Not by antiaircraft or by dogs, but he was executed. (And he was not a nice man, so it isn't like I am feeling bad for him either).

As for Russia and China, they aren't as bad as they used to be. Especially china.

I am aware of the Western media being so propagandaish...it's very true. (especially the way they report on African countries...) but the fact is, in NK, life is very very harsh.

CCTV and RT on the other hand won't report much bad news on NK because both China and Russia prefer to have the Kims in power...it keeps the US hegemony away from their border, and in china's case, a unified Korea means that the Chinese Northeast may try to seccede to join them.

RT always report news on NK, if it’s good or bad but they like to verify unlike CNN and BBC
Do you know the massive anti government protest going on in Chile, Amenia, France and Bahrain but you wouldn’t see it on MSM
