Cassava Farming Investment Opportunity by Isaaco82: 7:18am On Dec 12, 2020
Hello all,

There is a tractorable 500acres of land available.
I need partners/investors for cassava farming on this land.
I am a practical farmer and management is not an issue.
There is a cassava factory (Garri,elubo,fufu and pupuru) that will offtake the tubers so no real concern on how to sell it off.

This is the analysis for an acre/year
Land lease=6k
Ploughing=6k
Second ploughing=6k
Herbicides=6k
Herbicides application=2k
Cassava stems=8k
Cassava planting =3k
First weeding(herbicides)=5k
Application=2500
Second weeding=9k
Third weeding (herbicides)=4k
Herbicide application=#2500
Transport and other logistics=10
Harvesting:6k
Other expenses:15k

Revenue estimation
1 acre is expected to produce a minimum of 8 tonnes .
Since we will be processing;take garri for instance
4.5 tonnes of tubers =1 tonne of Garri
So 8 tonnes will produce a minimum of 1.8 tonnes of garri
A tonne of Garri from the factory is presently sold at #250k
1.9tonnes=#475k

The total charges on processing 1 tonne from 4.5tonnes is 40k

Transport cost:10k

Profit projection=475k-91k-40k-10k
=334k

But firstly let me start by castigating you analysis.
I expect you to tell us the cost of a tonne of harvested cassava not the processed garri.
And reality check of output for one hectare of land is between 7 and 10 tonnes.
Which will make an acre output to be between 3.5 and 5.
Except you are not a farmer as you claim or then you might be deluding yourself.

If you are getting 7-10 tonnes per hectare,then you have been doing some things wrongly.How did you space your cassava and what's the population you averagely ensured on an acre.For optimum yield,you need to have a plant population of about 4500-4800 on an acre.More reason why tractorable land is preferable.Apart from the fact that I farm cassava,I have a cassava factory.I just harvested from one acre of farm,cultivated manually and we got a total of 6.2 tonnes.If mechanised,the same farm would have given nothing less than 8 acres.It is possible you even get less than 1 tonne on an acre ,it depends on your management especially on weed control and density.

On the price per tonne,as at when I made this post,it was 25k but presently,it is between 39k-45k.

But note,most farmers here in Oyo state don't sell per tonne,they sell in either Igba(200heaps) or ponpon/cabster/trailer/ etc.An Igba is now 30k while ponpon is 150k.I prefer buying in Igba though and e get why.A normal acre will give you 4500 heaps and when harvested upon maturity you won't get less than 10 igbas.An Igba if monitored well,will give you about 800kg.
