Why Did The Gospel Consider Mockery At Jesus Blasphemous? by Preciousgirl(op): 10:51am On Dec 19, 2020
When onlookers, millitary and passers by mocked Jesus on the cross, the gospel writer considered it blasphemy.

Why was this blasphemy?

THE THIRD HOUR!

Mark 15:25-27,29

[25]Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.

[26]And the inscription of His accusation was written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS.

[27]With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left.

[29] And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,

My Questions:

Would it be blasphemy if it were another like Moses, Elijah or Peter on the cross?

If not, why is it blasphemy in the case of Jesus?

Thank you

For God gave Jesus that whosoever believes in Him will not Perish but have Eternal LIFE. If you don't believe that you are mocking yourself.

It's a problem of translation.

Some versions used the verb "jeered" and some used "insulted".

Fact is, the original Greek texts used the verb "blasphemed". But contrary to the contemporary meaning of the verb in which it is understood uniquely as a defamation of what is divine, the Greek language applies the verb on mortal humans too.

OP, I hope you are paying attention. According to Jesus Christ, insulting His person or God is not considered blasphemous in the New Covenant. Instead blasphemy against the a Spirit of God is against the Law and punishable by death(unforgivable, with the Spirit Himslf being the one to carry out the execution unlike the case with the Old Covenant law of blasphemy).

In your thread you said Jesus is God which the maker of the statement knew. Thus, Blasphemy is Insult Directed to a Person Greater than man while for distinction purposes Insults to men are described as such.

"... At that time, profaning the name of the LORD began."
- Genesis 4:26b

Nobi just today, yansh don tay for fowl back.

As you can see from Genesis 4:26b above, mocking God, is a time immemorial custom

Sarah laughed at God, but she didnt laugh at what God said in scornful way, but her laugh was done in an innocently waving off manner, This is understandable, considering Sarah knew she had stopped menstruating, so she found it incomprehensible that God would then come and be saying, she in her present menopause condition, still will have a son, hence the reason why she secretly laughed, so but these guys, "onlookers, millitary and passers" sic openly and publicly in a contemptuous manners laughed at Jesus, who is God incarnate. They were jeering, made slurs with their disparaging remarks. They profaned Him.

If it were another like Moses, Elijah or Peter on the cross, it would not be blasphemy if same what said at them, because they aren't God?

It is blasphemy in the case of Jesus because He is God incarnate

The divinity of Jesus was not understood by the early Christians the way we do today. Jesus was not understood as God incarnate by the early Christians but as a predestined divine Messiah.

You are right in your claim if and only if the writer was influenced by divine inspiration which made him see beyond his contemporary understanding of the person of Jesus.

"1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2He was with God in the beginning.
14The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
(i.e. The Word became a human being and lived here with us.
We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.
From him the complete gifts of undeserved grace and truth have come down to us.)
"
- John 1-2, 14

As seen in John 1-2, 14 above, the divinity of Yahshua Ha Mashiah aka Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour of the whole wide world was known by at least mention, Apostle John, the disciple, the one whom Jesus loved
