Two Professors Emerge Local Government Chairmen In Borno by Islie(op): 6:53pm On Dec 23, 2020
Two professors were among the 27 local government chairmen sworn in in Borno State on Wednesday.

The two professors are Adamu Alooma and Ibrahim Bukar.

Alooma, who is a Professor of banking and finance, was a former Dean, at the faculty of management sciences in University of Maiduguri, took oath as chairman of Damboa Local Government Area.

Bukar, who is a Professor of education, also at the same university, took an oath as chairman of Gwoza Local Government Area.

They were among the 27 elected during the election conducted into all the Local Government Area of the state on November 28, in which the All Progressives Party won all the seats for chairmanship and councilorship levels.

During the swearing in ceremony of the chairmen, which took place at the multipurpose hall of the Government House in Maiduguri, Zulum recalled that election was not conducted in the state for over 10 years, due to the lingering security situation in Borno.

Zulum, in his remark, directed the ministry for local government and emirate affairs to immediately release to the elected chairmen, all funds allocated to the 27 local government councils from the federation account so they could begin to impact lives at the grassroots.

He, however, called on the elected officials to discharge their duties with the fear of God, but without fear or favour.

He charged all the elected officials to operate in their respective local government headquarters that are safe and with citizens living there.

He said governance will not make sense if chairmen choose to operate from Maiduguri whereas those who cast votes for them live in local government areas outside Maiduguri.

Zulum noted that the chairmen need to live and operate from the midst of their people in order to know problems of the moments and address them.

For them to be local government chairmen is much more lucrative than academics. Congratulations to them. A step-by-step approach is an everlasting solution for the visionaries.

This sounds good, like they really want an avenue to serve their people, but trust Nigerian politicians it’s in their blood, looting at every slight.

Let them have their own share of national cake after all they had got so far as professors are little compare to what they will get before their tenure expires as chairmen, that is Nigerian political officeholders for you.
