So i went to church today after about six months i said let me try again this year i was enjoying it at first then the pastor started speaking in tongues for about 20 mins i was pissed because it sounded so fake my question here is i tot u need to b under d influence of d holy spirit to speak in tongues but this man came from no where and started speaking as if it was his native language wats ur take on this christians? I walked out of the church before he could finish and everyone seems not to mind
If I remember clearly its only once that d disciples spoke in tongues in d bible even jesus didn’t speak in tongues. Wats your take on this christians

It's scriptural for a pastor to speak in tongue for long as possible! But for the sake of people like you, it'll be wise for him to pray in human language.

This is not to discount the growing ubiquity of fake pastors and churches. The Bible clearly prophesied that it'll characterize this last days. You need to grow in the solid truth of the scripture to withstand.

Hello, good afternoon. I vividly remember when I asked my bros about this many years back.
Praying in tongues (Holy Spirit) doesn't actually mean you should be dramatic, not aware of your environment, you being in a trance or whatever drama.
Thank God you spoke about the disciples, now let's talk about them. They prayed in the upper room, felt the urge/desire to talk to other people about the Kingdom of Heaven, so they simply went into the streets to talk to people, that's it. But something significant happened, the people heard their teachings in their mother tongue. Why? God understands that for those people to believe the disciples, this is the most effectual way possible ( for them to hear the teachings in their mother tongue). The disciples neither prayed for it (the Holy Spirit knew that's the best way to win those souls so He did it) nor where they praying to the people they only preached, God did the rest.
About Jesus, the only time the Bible talked about His praying was when He prayed concerning the crucifixion, other times the Bible said He went to the mountain and prayed nothing more.
Let me talk about myself, the day I started praying in the Holy Spirit, I wasn't laid hands upon or did I feel anything, I was in church and during the praise session I started praying in the Holy Spirit, I only believed.
About the pastor, yes you can pray in the Holy Spirit and be aware of your environment.
Human educational system consists of stages; you start from kindergarten..... So is our spiritual growth, it also consists of stages, he (pastor) is at the stage where he doesn't have to be dramatic and that doesn't mean he isn't praying in the Holy Spirit.

I have also thought so before, bro. Until I understood it.

People think for you to speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit will take over your consciousness and you won't be in much control of yourself. That is a wrong impression held by many people.

Actually, after you have been filled with the Holy Spirit, you will sense within yourself that you want to say something, if you attempt to speak that 'something' you will speak the utterance/words the Holy Spirit give you.

And anytime you DECIDE to speak in tongues again, the Holy Spirit gives you utterance again, just as simple as anyone who wants to speak in his own language. You can start or stop anytime you like, with no drama involved.

Mind you, some people do repeat the same utterance for long/days before receiving new ones. I don't know why this is so, but I know it is genuine. Someone's experience may not be exactly the same as that of another.

You are not told that the disciples only spoke in tongues the one time. Instead, the instance that took place on Pentecost is the only record of them speaking that Luke, the author of the Acts of the apostle, wrote of in his book.

Now, as for the fake-sounding speaking, you heard while in church, I suggest you take that prompting from your own spirit seriously. Don't just ask other people, investigate it on your own. Record your pastor speaking it and ask a language specialist or even Google translate if it is a real language your pastor is speaking of if it is just gibberish.

you have never been to the church for the past 6 months and the day you decided to go, you again found offence in a man speaking in tongues.

You too imagine.. the people who had been in God's presence for over 6 months are not bothered except you...

I think you need to know God more.

This is one of the reasons Jesus continued speaking in parables....

So that only the heart that seeks after God will be patient enough to seek for understanding....

These are things of the spirit, if you are not spiritually aligned, it will always annoy you.
That is how people complain of fasting, complain of prayers, complain of long preaching, complain of worship songs and lots more ..

If you find offense in the things of God, I'm sorry to say this, there is evil inside of you...

You must first accept Jesus as your Lord, you seem to know him but you don't yet know him.
Then

Please pray to God that He should shine his light to your soul so that you will stop fighting against his spirit.
Ask the spirit of God to come into your heart and change you for good.
Tell God you really want to know him, that he should show/reveal himself to you and teach you things you do not know.
