The root for the name “Nigeria” lies within the river Niger.
It is absurd to name our nation after a river.
Since 1914 (or thereabouts) till date, nobody knows the meaning of Nigeria and its quite unfortunate!

Niger Area. That's the meaning. Stop wondering.

What I mean is that the name does not suit the nation's destiny.... It needs to be changed.

Correct, The people that live along the Niger (Black) River, Niger, Nigga originally means black in Latin, so basically we are the people from the black river area, Benin Republic, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria were once one Empire, before the white man started the decimation of Africa.

Names mostly gain good meaning if the bearer lives a worthy, selfless life or if a place attract good views. So make your name count. Abacha as a name in Nigeria doesn't bring good memories thereby not a good name to give any child now except you have something common with the name
