Sadhu Amar Bharati is an Indian national. Sadhu's story is one of those stories one may see online and probably not give a cent about. Though this may seem hard to believe, his story may actually be true, and a lot of credible media houses have also carried the story.

Feeling that he was living a life that fell below the standard of his God, Shiva, Sadhu decided that he wanted to take his faith more serious. In 1970, Sadhu was reported to have left his family and resigned from his job to further his devotion to his God, Shiva.

Sadhu tried to follow in the teachings of his belief, and actually did follow through after he reportedly became a monk. However, after three years of devotion to his faith, Sadhu did even more, that is if the his story is to be believed. This is because, after three years of pure devotion to his God, Sadhu felt that he was still 'carnal'.

In 1973, Sadhu decided to raise his right hand up in devotion to his God, Shiva. According to the claims by Sadhu, he is said to have kept his hands raised up for more than 35years. Sadhu raised his hand to 90 degree as a sign of his personal devotion to his God, Shiva because he felt he was still 'carnal'.

A look at the pictures at the moment though shows how bad the hand has deteriorated.
