Dr. Godwin Maduka has cleared air on building 21 varsities across the 21 LGAs of Anambra State – a statement which haters of growth have said is impossible, not necessary and have used for various propagandas.

In a recent interview, Dr. Maduka while making reference to Dr Tunji Braithwaite popular movement of Ikoyi residents to Mushin and vice veras, said his idea of educational revolution in Anambra State is out of pure wisdom and love for Ndi Anambra.

He said that –
“The fourth estate of the realm is very vital in the development of every modern society. They act as a check on the excesses of those in power, mirror issues in the society and help start a conversation on them. However, sometimes, the quest to sell overshadows their dedication to proper journalistic tenets. Sensationalism takes over qualitative and investigative reporting.

“There are what lawyers call literal interpretation and liberal or purposive interpretation. The purposive interpretation tends to look at the intent of the statement or the purpose the statement is meant to achieve, not the literal meaning, and in this case, the intent of my statement is basically my passion and belief in education as the easiest and best means of human capacity development. Actually, people understood what I said literally, hence the sensation and not in the purposive sense of the fact that I want to prioritize education. If you recall, when Dr Tunji Braithwaite was running for presidential election, he would always say that he wanted to relocate the residents of Ikoyi to Mushin and Mushin residents to Ikoyi. People got mad, but then, people understood the literal meaning of the statement rather than the liberal or purposive explanation. He was simply implying that if the rich could have a feeling of the conditions of the poor; it will go a long way in the commitment to bridging the gap between them. There are certain truths and possibilities people find outrageous or may not seem to understand very well, yet at the end it becomes the reality.

“For emphasis, my idea of educational revolution in Anambra State comes from a keen study I did in the US. I found out that in America, Educational communities drive the economic bases. I took a trip to the Silicon Valley and I discovered how Stanford University is the brain power behind most tech start-ups. I started developing a similar idea which I can localize in my home state. I realize that if we can have educational communities around our economic bases, it will blow up the Anambra economy and double up our GDP in a short while. For example, an educational community with engineering courses as its main focus located around the Nnewi axis will contribute so much to research and development in automobiles and manufacturing. Imagine the deepening of local content and backward integration it will trigger, together with the attendant wealth and job creation. If you have an educational community around Awka, it will stimulate ICT and Technological start-ups. Likewise in the Agricultural bases of Ayamelum, Anambra east and west, an educational community will do a lot in the research of hybrids products and also develop models geared towards Agric-economics and agro processing which is a billion dollar industry. So in a nutshell, I was trying to talk about 21 specialized university campuses. We must revolutionize education to make it useful and that is what we want to do in other sectors.

“My idea is that I want Anambra to be the educational hub of sub-Saharan Africa. Las Vegas where I live has about 10 universities. I am a man of big dreams and ideas. I did same in Umuchukwu, a village that was on the lowest rung of development and I built a city out of it. I am a product of possibilities. I went to America from the village and excelled beyond measures, and built six world class hospitals in the state of Nevada. I represent hope and inspire people to dream. With my story, it is obvious that regardless of your background, your dreams are valid.
He has done well to clear the air.

Maduka should realize that most American states have a few state universities, lots of community two year colleges while the vast majority are private. Nevada has just 4 full fledged public universities with a total enrollment of around 70,000. That is the equivalent of double the enrollment at Unizik and Anambra State University.

The thing of 21 campuses in 21 LGAs is a silly political campaign tool.

You are very correct about America. Most of these universities are privately owned and strictly regulated by the government. We need trade schools not university. However , our current universities need urgent overhaul.

Meanwhile , I listened to Maduka spoke and he sounded like he couldnt put his thoughts together. I have a problem with a public leader who is not articulate. I love Obaze , Chidoka , Muoghalu , Soludo because they are madly articulate. Makes it seem as though he understands the problems.

I think that is what he is trying to convey but our hapless journalists keep misquoting him ! The university/college operating model keeps evolving all around the world especially in America, Personally I prefer the Indiana model. They have an Indiana state university but they also have a 2 year community college called Ivy tech community college with about 40 campuses all around Indiana, why so many campuses? the state of Indiana recognizes that the full 4-year universities may not be for everyone, there are a lot of young people who want just a 2-year associate degree in the first instance, with which they can seek employment immediately, they can go elsewhere to obtain a bachelors degree later.

The Indiana ivy tech community college also cater to much older people who may be interested in changing occupations be it in the professions or trades/vocations, for instance, they have a lot of courses in fields like plumbing, carpentry, and even auto repair technician but for me, the biggest selling point of this community college is the flexibility of their lecture time tables and the cheaper school fees.

I do believe

Vocational education is actually what Anambra needs badly. A lot of artisans learn informally and it shows. Their measurements are off, they are highly inefficient and they are not innovative. Look at the furniture making industry and just contrast Nigeria with Sweden. Or look at the construction industry.

The worst thing that has happened to us is this fascination with retailing. It is great at the beginning in backward Nigeria but competition always decimates retail. But craft, manufacturing? These businesses last centuries. The Germans still dominate auto from inception. The Swiss still make the world's best watches and confectionary. The Italians still produce great clothes and luxury cars.

Soludo had a great vision for Anambra with the Dubai/Taiwan idea but he lacks detail and focus. How are we going to be Dubai the marketplace or Taiwan the manufacturer? It's not by hot air because Onitsha Main Market is to Dubai as to what a hut is to a skyscraper. Nnewi looks nothing like Taipei or Khaosiung.

Education is just one factor in production. Others are power, good roads, capital. I don't think Maduka is it.

I doubt this is the terminal building. The roof is different from the curved one we saw being installed a few weeks ago.

This could be that building shown in the video uploaded last week. From the size, we can at least deduce it's not the terminal building or aircraft hanger.

Aviation/airports are on the exclusive list......so yes, Hadi-Sirika is waiting to take over the airport when it's completed! I suppose it's so the owners of Nigeria can moderate who can have viable airports and who can't! See how they've rubbished AIIA, Enugu? I just pray they leave this one alone so it can grow and thrive organically without the 'Nigerian factor' limiting it in any way!

The roof is the third floor,. The image is the downfloor of the terminal building

I thinks it will be managed by Anambra Airport City Infrastructure Limited.

I don't want FG to take over this airport too early,

Well we wait for the Wikipedia page of the airport

you people just keep on peddling false stories Everytime. what is exclusive list? any airport built by a state is owned by the state unless the state cannot manage it and asks the federal government to take over it, this happened with Sam mbakwe and some other airports in the north. even the faan manager was complaining in 2020 that no state should bring any airport for federal government to manage as the ones they have taken over are not generating profit and that they will not take over any airport again. NCAA regulates all airports and provides operating licenses as they meet to standard, but faan manages only federally owned airports. akwa ibom and Asaba airports have been state managed since construction.

pls many people visit this thread, don't confuse them with wrong stories.

don't mind that guy. FG will not take over what they were not asked to by the state. meanwhile, FG is tired of new airports and don't even want to manage any additional airport but rather improve the ones they own.

This is not the same structure we have been seeing so unless this is a new terminal that we don't know about. Are they building 2 terminals? The videos that we have seen so far have never shown this structure. Where is it located on site and can you get better pictures or video to confirm.
