Why It Is Wrong To Generalize All Ibos As Supporters Of Trump by nnapal(m): 10:18pm On Jan 23, 2021
I have been seeing some tribalistic comments in nairaland forum recently mocking Ibos as supporters of Trump, and that anybody they support is bound to fail.
Whenever I see these kind of comments, I feel insulted. I skip reading comments out of anger. Let me clear people here. I'm even more angered because I have been very open anti-Trump from day one. I was very active in twitter since before this November election, all the time expressing my disdain for Trump and his policies. As a result, I got some American followers. I understood the implication of Trump effect, and I'm against extreme right wing waves he created around the world when he won his election in 2016, and even more appalled of his constant lying and cunny ways.
Religious group organised a crusade in support of Trump in South-east and everyone immediately generalized these people to represent the mind of every Ibos. What people with this mindset doesn't admit is that many religious leaders in Nigeria were against Biden and his democratic party because of their gay and abortion issue. Again Nigerians are generally conservative and close minded, so they won't understand why a person's sexual orientation should not be brought into consideration. This fear against Democratic party in US is mostly general, it's not only Ibo issue. For instance, in this North-central state I'm staying, most people around doesn't fancy Democratic party at all. They even equated Biden winning as doom trying to happen. I have been trying to enlighten people around me, mostly from other tribes that Biden is eve more human and their fear is not real.
Some of my friends in South-east jubilated the night Biden was projected winner, some were angry. I have Yoruba friends who doesn't care who wins the election.
However, there wre some conspiracy theories among Ipob believers that Trump will give them Biafra. I don't know how this emnanated but I question the rationale behind it. Most Ipob believers dwell in conspiracy theories, which is a common thing between them and a lot of Trump followers. People have to know that majority of Ibos doesn't give a shit about Ipob, but they may believe at some level that Nigerian government is marginalising them. Ibos expressed reservation against Nigerian government for killing Ipob followers extra-judicially but this doesn't mean what they do is of much interest to average Ibo man. So, again you can't lump all Ibos as Ipob members and Trump supporters.
Furthermore, look at most accomplished people from South-east and tell me who they may likely support between Biden and Trump, Chimamada for example. Usually, the more ignorant folks support Trump.
In the end, Nigerians are not open-minded, some do to ignorance, some due to religious fanaticism. It's fair to lump people together in this way.

Let gather the statistics of religious leaders that were in support of Trump all over Nigeria. Some top pastors across Nigeria supported Trump. If u do your research, you will see that this sentiment is spread out and not peculiar to any tribe. I challenge you also to compare both of us who is more active in favour of Biden. It was even reported in nairaland that a man from Anambra is in-law to Harris.

Agreed , but majority of Igbos support Trump due to religious bigotry and the numerous conspiracy theories that have painted Liberals as Satanist and other bad names...its very sad for thinkers in Igboland to see they level of clouded mindset of igbo trump supporters.... I'm a proud Liberal and will continue to enlighten my people as much as i can...My Love For Democrats knows no bounds....

Another factor is that pastors at local levels drummed support for Trump and labelled him as the God sent..i attended a church where the Pastor called for special prayers for Trump...i felt so ashamed of my people, such close-mindedness, forsaking everything just because of religion and yet we blame northerners who have bn blinded by religion... religion mixing up with politics is very very dangerous...

Most evangelicals supported trump, so the demented and ignorant illiterates would assume all igbos support trump. But the same fools will try to differentiate between herdsmen from Libya and herdsmen from Nigeria and will try to explain that not all herdsmen are criminals but refuse to understand that not all igbos are ipob members and not all igbos care about US election

OP, you own no one any explanations, esp the yaribaa people, majority of them were core trumpsters, but as we know, they love to play politics of anywhere belle face. majority of Christians among them were Trump supporters, the Muslims for Biden. they systematically use this divide among them to change their views afterwards in any complex situation

Will u agree that not all fulani herdsmen are violent? Do u agree that not all edo women are witches?? Do u agree that not all Calabar people are obsessed with sex

Well don't take it personal. Nigeria functions on generalizations. We love to put people in boxes. If u as an Igbo person didn't support trump then move on, it won't change people's perception about igbos.

OP- Who cares if people think all Igbos like Trump. Is he a criminal or did he start wars and cause ISIS to spread like Obama did?

I personally like Trump but I have family members that hate him. Everybody with their own opinion.

Many people still fail to realize that not all we true igbos are Igbos.

Can someone tell me why it's a sin to support Trump but it's not a sin to support Biden? Why is that so especially in Nigeria? To think that some nigerians were killed in their country few years ago just because they celebrated Trump's victory as US president is very shameful. And is it by force to support Biden?
Re: Why It Is Wrong To Generalize All Ibos As Supporters Of Trump by Nobody: 9:13pm On Jan 24, 2021
OP, quit this pathetic attempt at damage limitation. You are just exposing your bigoted and intolerant fellow Igbos to more ridicule.

Everyone now understand that Igbos alone organised a public campaign for Trump in Africa because of their religious and bigoted association the former POTUS.

Trump is a moslem-hating Christian, misogynist, and all-round intolerant bigot. Same with most Igbos. A match made in Heaven.

I advice you to just suck it up. Igbos may have disgraced themselves openly campaigning for Trump but the sad truth is that no one was shocked Igbos did that as it is historically in their character to worship hate-mongers, anarchists, intolerant bigots and divisive leaders.
