[LAGOS SCHOOLS REHABILITATION]: On the 4th of November 2019, Governor @jidesanwoolu inaugurated the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (@lagosscrps) in Lagos State headed by Mr Hakeem Smith as the Chairman.

FUNCTIONS of the Committee was well stated in this THREAD I did on that same day ... which was the mandate given to the @lagosscrps Committee.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Hakeem Smith had a Press Conference to roll out what this Special Committee has been doing since inauguration which was held at their Office Complex in Ikeja.

OBJECTIVES :

- IMMEDIATE: Issues that need Immediate Intervention

- MIDTERM: Provision of Additional Classrooms, Labs etc

- LONG TERM: Building new schools, improving technology etc

Project divided into 2 Phases.

PHASE 1:

- 300 New Classrooms

- Hostel Construction

- Provision of 100,000 Student Furniture in 92 Schools

- Emergency intervention in 42 Schools (primary and secondary)

PHASE 1:
Covid slowed the work BUT a lot of progress was made:

- Construction of 300 schools are at various stages of completion

- Constriction of 7 new Hostel Blocks in Model Colleges

- Construction of Eight Watch Towers, Perimeter Fencing to enhance Security

ESTABLISHMENT of Brand New Schools:

- Elemoro Junior School (Work has started)

- Oriokuta Junior School (Delayed due communal issues which has now been resooved

AKINTAN JUNIOR GRANMAR SCHOOL SURULERE - Construction of 12 Classrooms already at finishing phase

IGANDO JUNIOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL: construction of 12 Classrooms.

LAGOS STATE MODEL COLLEGE, IGBOKUTA IKODORU - Construction of Female Hostel at finishing Stage

ELEMORO COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL, IBEJU (Brand New school already at roof level)

Chairman of @lagosscrps, Mr Hakeem Smith says about 18,000 people are directly and indirectly involved in these projects, with more hands being employed in the LGA/LCDA Level.

Mr Smith says @lagosscrps is also working on improving technology in Schools, which has commenced at VETLAND Junior Grammar School, Agege with a Modular Type of Construction which will be replicated in all Education Districts.
